Over the past week, my eight-year-old daughter had a persistent worry which my wife and I kept trying to tamp down: that if Donald Trump got elected, her friends with immigrant parents would be forced to leave the country.
We tried to reassure her that that was unlikely even if Trump won. But on Wednesday morning, after we told her Trump was indeed headed to the White House, there were tears nonetheless, and another heartbreaking expression of worry for her friends.
Parenting and politics collide. I hadn't even made a pot of coffee yet. There's been a lot written in the past few days about "What do we tell the children" in the face of a Trump. How do we address the rise of a man who says things they've known since pre-K they'd be suspended for saying themselves? There have been countless tweets and water cooler conversations between parents about how their kids are upset and anxious over a Trump victory.

“We live in a mostly Latino neighborhood of largely Mexican and Salvadoran immigrants. Many of them don’t have papers.”
On the one hand, we have a US citizen, somewhere out there, who may not have great skills, but who wants to support himself with a decent job. I suppose this person may face disappointment because an illegal immigrant is currently taking the job.
On the other hand, we have an 8-year-old child who may face disappointment if her friend moves away.
Tough, tough call — disappoint a small child, or take away all chance for happiness and a productive life from a grown man. Tough call, man. But I guess I know what Liberals would suggest ...
Thanks...shouldn’t have skimmed. I just couldn’t get through that piece.
President Trump will enforce the law that already exists not create the laws.
Article smells like Bull$%*t
Don’t take the bait
“We live in a mostly Latino neighborhood of largely Mexican and Salvadoran immigrants. Many of them don’t have papers.”
I question this line. How does he know? Oh wait, he doesn’t. Not all latinos are illegals, plus why does he live in such a low rent and high crime neighborhood? He doesn’t, he probably lives in a neighborhood with good school and nice houses, like Princeton, Plainsboro, West Windsor, Monroe, Summit.
This is made up my fellow Freepers, fake, just like the polls this dweeb was quoting last week....
An old college friend of 40 years who is left of center is upset that his son in law from Columbia might have problems under a Trump administration. His daughter, a born citizen, worries about her husband and American born daughter. How can people be so ignorant. Her husband may or may not be in trouble but her daughter is 100% American citizen.
Had both parents been illegal then the daughter might have to go back as an anchor baby. BUT not in this case.
Because little Sue Who’s dad broke the law when he came here illegally. Not only that but y
He used government service that are for legal citizens. Do you think that is fair?
Do you think it’s fair for someone to jump ahead of you in the in line while you are waiting to buy Justin Bieber tickets? Especially if you have been standing in line for long time?
Well, that is what little Sue Who’s dad did.
Yes. Next?
So what happens when a military family moves and they get separated from their friends? Do we stop redeploying the military because of this?
I doubt he lives in such a neighborhood, it would be rare to find white people in these areas, generally these neighborhoods are a mix of black and latinos. White people would be attacked daily for living in these parts of New Jersey
He lives in white landia, like 99% of the white people in New Jersey do, he sends his kids to great public schools, not failed garbage dumps like Trenton or Newark.
This article is pure BS, just like the polls that this dweeb was quoting before the election
I want to know what they tell their children about partial-birth abortion and Hillary’s support for it - even abortion in general. I also want them to take half their children’s belongings and food and give them to the illegal invaders; that is what they are forcing us to do.
Anyone who supports the de facto amnesty is profiting from it, either via a government job that needs clients (like schoolteachers) or by renting/selling things to them (in exchange for untaxed cash).
NJ is becoming a huge black market economy; working for and paying cash for illegal apartments and such.
And if they are not from a US territory, they get to grace their homelands with their presence. We won't even bill them for all the loot they stole from the taxpayers.
Why is the child always 8 years old in these stories?
I actually e-mailed the guy who wrote this drivel....he has a link under his picture. Tell him how to get a spine and explain rules/law ...I told him I felt bad for his daughter for having such a spineless father.
You should ask your child, “Who told you that?”, then confront them. If it’s a teacher, complain to the school board. If it’s another child, it’s probably the parents. Confront them.
P.S.: Note that those responsible are those who broke U.S. law and not President Trump or the American people. If your friend is unhappy, he/she should blame his/her parents or whoever broke U.S. law in the first place.
“You can tell them, to go....themselves”
This guy does have a point. My 13 year old daughter asked me why anyone would vote for a someone as corrupt as Hillary. How do I explain to her that half of America is morally bankrupt?
