Donald Trump, in Exclusive Interview, Tells WSJ He Is Willing to Keep Parts of Obama Health Law
The Wall Street Journal ^ | 11/11/2016 | GERARD BAKER and MONICA LANGLEY

NEW YORK—President-elect Donald Trump said that, after conferring with President Barack Obama, he would consider leaving in place certain parts of the Affordable Care Act, an indication of possible compromise after a campaign in which he pledged repeatedly to repeal the 2010 health law.

In his first interview since his election earlier this week, Mr. Trump said one priority was moving “quickly” on the president’s signature health initiative, which he argued has become so unworkable and expensive that “you can’t use it.”

Yet, Mr. Trump also showed a willingness to preserve at least two provisions of the health law after the president asked him to reconsider repealing it during their meeting at the White House on Thursday

Mr. Trump said he favors keeping the prohibition against insurers denying coverage because of patients’ existing conditions, and a provision that allows parents to provide years of additional coverage for children on their insurance policies.

So much crap being reported in an attempt to paint Trump as backing down.

The media lies. Nothing they say can be trusted as accurate. I will wait to hear it from Trump's own mouth.

That’s not the issue. The issue is giving the Dems a win on it and three days after election saying he’s open to something other than the repeal he campaigned on.

This is a dangerous and worrisome direction all around.

****You cannot insure against something that has already happened. Coverage for preexisting conditions is simply cost shifting.****

The general public understands auto insurance - if you buy a damaged used car, your auto insurance will not cover the cost of repairs.

“Repeal and replace” is what he campaigned on, and he shouldn’t go against that within 72 hours of election — let alone the political implications of giving the Dems that win.

Seen this one? No promises and being polite to Obama.

Suggestions.

“I told him I will look at his suggestions, and out of respect, I will do that,” the president-elect said at Trump Tower.

Oh piffle. You knew the media was going to spin anything. Let them do so. We know the answer because of the baling wire and bubble gum nature of PPACA. Donald wouldn’t do that any more than slapping a coat of Sears house paint on his jet.

The media will ignore that because they want people worried the evil Republicans will take away their health insurance and leave them to die in the streets.

“So much crap being reported in an attempt to paint Trump as backing down.”

Exactly.

Even the Republican alternative to Obamacare had the pre-existing coverage provision.

The coverage for dependents until age 26 was already law here in WI before Obamacare. It was a state thing - you know, the way the constitution envisioned things, states control for themselves that which is not empowered to the fed in the Constitution. States who want it could easily have forced insurers on the pre-existing conditions front, but I’m pretty sure no state had done that prior to the ACA, for obvious reasons of keeping plans affordable since they weren’t mandating that young people buy overpriced plans to cover the costs of other higher risk peoples premiums. You know, back when individual insurance policies were sold priced on actuarial data based on the individuals risk factors versus the coverage they want. Kinda like car insurance.

How is it being polite to Obama to open himself to a reversal of a fundamental campaign promise the week he’s elected?

Presidential succession doesn’t require that. What’s next—being open to leaving our borders open and keeping Obama’s unconstitutional executive amnesties and maybe raising taxes because Obama has asked him to?

That does get it off on a different premise, and it’s polite enough.

The chances that a Barack idea will get in there... slim and none, and slim left town. But it’s seemly protocol.

WSJ are fricken liars. He pledged to repeal and replace. If he keeps some of the provisions (parents policy for 26 year olds, etc.) that would be part of the replacement.

I honestly don’t see how it would work to repeal all of Obamacare but keep the mandate that with pre-exisitng condition mandate. That only works if you also have a mandate to force healthy people to buy insurance. Otherwise, only sick people will buy insurance and healthy people will just go without coverage and only buy it when/if they get sick.

My real concern is that Trump may fail us in many of our pet issues that we think he’s gonna fix.

I've only been here for five years. But I learned long ago how dreary, dispiriting and usually dishonest a concern troll turns out to be.

In your case it seems the mods must feel the same way.

Yeah, it needs to be a rewrite.

It’s going to look, I bet, like the difference between a peeling paint job in a ghetto, and the immaculate finish on Trump’s jet.

It is repeal. All there saying is that they will have a financial mechanism to deal with people with pre-existing conditions. Like a high risk pool.

First of all, folks, we’re going to get a lot of mixed signals as the transition team shakes out.

Second, the MSM is going to peddle disinformation and confusion to try to undermine Trump.

Why don’t we all just hold off for a month or two and see how things shake out?
