You sir forgot Smoker, Mash Tun and local Karaoke DJ/Mechanic and his fun foibles. I see age as something to avoid. I say live in the here and now. The Trump is here and Now. Damn the torpedoes screw the whites of their eyes, I have not yet begun to fight. Been biding my time for a long damned time. It’s time to unleash the PEPE KRAKEN.

He’s asking her to cite a source? If she didn’t attribute it, and still HAS a source, THAT is plagiarism.

She should just cite Merriam-Webster.

I find it slightly disconcerting how a college senior doesn't know that hence, as a transition word, should be preceded by a semi-colon and followed by a comma. This rule also applies to therefore and however, as well. You should not use these words at the start of a sentence.

That being said, her professor is an idiot.

In high school I had a list of words that I liked to use for essays that I would rarely use otherwise. I called it my BS list and used them to make my answers be more than just the facts I knew. Sometimes they were just fillers to make my essay meet the required amount of words needed. Never failed to get me a better grade.

He marked "this is not your word". I'd wager he's familiar with the article/source she copied the phrase from w/o citing it.

Trying to teach her a valuable lesson and she wants to cry.

You could be an Australopithecan if you really wanted. But dirt is much older than the flood.

The definition I was going for is the ridiculously old-fashioned one, but bravo.

Few people talk the way they write and there is a world of deference between the way they write informally, for example on Facebook or a chat room, and the way they would write a school paper.

For example if this had been a school paper I would have caught that I should have used the word "difference" rather then "deference".

Never post between coming home from work and dinner.

As a sophomore in college, I took a medical sociology course. A research paper was a major part of the grade. On the last day of class, the professor passed out all the graded papers, except for mine. He announced: "Mr. Schulin, please see me after class." When I came to him, he said "I don't know where you plagiarized your paper from, but this far exceeds what an undergraduate could produce. You get an F for the paper and for the class." I smiled and said "Dr. Tavani, I'm glad to hear you say this exceeds your expectations for any undergraduate, because I'm sure that after I show you my research file, you will have no doubt that I wrote this paper myself. I expect nothing less than a A." He agreed to wait for an hour while I drove home and retrieved my 4x6 card fileboxes. I ended up getting the only A in the class.

I didn't begrudge my professor's initial poor opinion of me. I was delighted to learn that I exceeded his expectation of what was possible.

A Bronx Latina is probably a Puerto Rican woman who is Americanized. Therefore, the word “hence” is not outside the realm of her vocabulary. Think of Jennifer Lopez using the word hence — totally believable.

I’m a Puerto Rican woman raised in Puerto Rico and I use “hence” all the time.

The funny part about this is that the professor is most likely a liberal jerk who just stereotyped this woman.

Even common words, ( for example the word, “squirrel”) are not used frequently.

When learning Spanish I often thought about how hard it is to learn common vocabulary that isn't used often when speaking, reading, or writing.
