You are both added to the list. Welcome aboard. And welcome back AU72. You should be getting the next ping on Nov. 28 (George Strong at the concert again.)
The Diary of George Templeton Strong, Edited by Allan Nevins and Milton Halsey Thomas
It appears George Templeton refined too much upon Mr. Thalberg's admittedly whopper schozz: there's no indication in the bio of his being Jewish.
Hmmmmm.
Methinks there is more to the floundering steamer than what is chronicled.
5.56mm
Mr. Strong expanded my vocabulary today. Noctivagous!
Here are a piano concerto and a fantasy by Thalberg. Not that hearing them gives any insights to his ethnic heritage. Thalberg’s mother’s name was Stein, according to the bio, which could be Jewish. Otherwise I didn’t see any clues. It must have been a liberal age, since the different composers formed friendships and working relationships regardless of religion. Liszt and Mendelssohn, for example.

I thought that was great, too.
The Wikipedia article implied that Thalberg was really the son of the Prinz and Countess, rather than Mr. Thalberg and Ms. Stein, the parents of record.
