It will be a team of destiny facing a team of density, the Dodgers having packed their roster so thickly with heroes that a closer was hiding in their starting rotation.
The Dodgers used every bit of that and more Thursday night a closer pitching in the seventh inning, tag-team starting pitchers, backup catchers pinch-running and pinch-hitting and finally turned to Clayton Kershaw to close it out after Manager Dave Roberts said he would absolutely not do that, not even for one batter.
They somehow managed to both come-from-behind and hold on for their dear lives, beating the Washington Nationals, 4-3, in Game 5 of their National League Division Series.
The Dodgers advance to the NLCS for the second time in the past four years and fourth time in the past nine. This time, they will face the Chicago Cubs starting Saturday night at Wrigley Field.

Should be an interesting NLCS for a change. Go Dodgers! Got my sports fix this weekend, no Colon Kaperpunk or any NFL for that matter.
Win one for Vin Scully
Cool. Thanks.
Gotta give ‘em credit. Not sure why the Giants didn’t do the same thing with Bumgarner that LA did with Kershaw to save the game in the ninth inning.
Now the Dodgers meet the Cubbies, statistically the best team in baseball. Are the Cubbies the team of destiny? Can the Dodgers stop them? The drama builds...
Because it wasn't a Game #5 in that series. Only Game #4 with the Giants down 2-1 in that series.
Also, Bumgarner had just pitched the game before.
GO CUBS
Thank goodness I don’t have to see the Washington Beard Boys and their garish beards any more.
Any time someone from inside-the-beltway doesn’t win, it’s a good day.
I want the Dodgers to seat Bartman in the front row just past third base.
The elites and corruptocrats of Washington, D.C. took up most of the seats last night, and it was great to see them crushed by the loss
KERSHAW IS KING!
Great series, the Dodgers deserved to win for sure. Baker did a good job with the Nats this season, but holy cow he has now lost nine consecutive games with the opportunity to clinch a playoff round, most in baseball history.
Freegards
I was so nervous I couldn’t watch the bottom half of the ninth, I could only listen. Who will they pitch on Saturday? Maeda?
I know, but with one or two out, it wouldn’t have been that many pitches. Cueto was due to pitch the next game and I think went the distance the last time he pitched.
Bottom line, the Giants didn’t do what they needed to do this year to get a good bullpen and it ended up sinking them. Hope they fix it.
Wonder why that would be except of course the NYYankee thing.
I want the Cubs to go all the way. 108 years is too long a drought...
