Human Rights Watch and the American Civil Liberties Union released a report on Wednesday in support of the effort to stop drug arrests and convictions for the personal use of all drugs, citing the harm it does to people, including non-citizens, who might face deportation.

“The consequences of a conviction can mean that individuals and sometimes whole families are excluded from public benefits such as food stamps, housing, wages and job opportunities and even the voting booth next month,” Tess Borden, Aryeh Neier Fellow at both liberal organizations and author of the report, said at a press conference at the National Press Club.

“For non-citizens, it can mean possible deportation,” she added.

“Human Rights Watch and the ACLU are calling on all states and the U.S. Congress to decriminalize the personal use and possession of all illicit drugs,” Borden said. …

and when they can’t get a job because they’re addicted to drugs, they will call for a tax increase to subsidize that lifestyle.

Weird, the liberals were all concerned about what smoking and diabetes does to medical insurance. Seems as though drug abuse with its variety of health issues would earn the same concern. Except that drugs makes a person dependent and malleable.

Depends on the drug.

Cocaine and Methamphetamine don’t make you malleable.

But you can’t tax it until you legalize it.

Democrats are always looking for a new source of taxable income.

Billions of dollars in drug profits and they aren’t getting their cut.

One gets pretty malleable when “jonesing” for one’s next dose. Perhaps that is malleable enough for its purveyors.

So...now the opiate of the people can be the opiate of the people.

Nope.

Not unless they are imprisoned in pods for the duration of the high.

They don’t live in a vacuum and they will negatively affect others.

We can’t even get people to not hurt othrs on legal drugs and alcohol.

I give up.

Let’s just let EVERYBODY in here, no questions asked, put them on every welfare handout known to man, let them get all the drugs they want, no ID, vote multiple times, rape, rob, and assault the native population with impunity, and confiscate the wealth of everyone who’s not on welfare to pay for it all until the country is Venezuela broke.

I wonder how many people will die by their own hand and stupidity if this policy were adopted?

Car accidents, suicide from bad drugs, killing others because the drugs enhanced their paranoia, etc.

Also, what about the loss of life in the drug trafficking and smuggling operations themselves.

The poorer areas would soon look like Chicago on Steroids re a weekly body count.

Yep, only liberals could punish the American people this way, but the ACLU of today, along with some of the HRW crew, are nothing but Marxists posing as concerned liberals.

They are The Enemy Within. FYI, go to www.TheEnemyWithin.org and see what their new documentary is all about.

Then they’ll start demanding free drugs to support their addiction.

This is you brain on cocaine. It kills off the neocortex portion of the brain. This area controls logic and the ability to speak. I suspect this damage also triggers irrational, violent behavior.

and if we don’t subsidize their addict lifestyle, you can expect an increase in robbery, burglary, homicide, aggressive panhandling, etc. Crime and addiction go hand and hand.

So normal people will get to walk among weakling losers who have to drug themselves to get through life. Great. And how’s that going to affect the auto accident rate, when drugged-up losers, with their altered perceptions, smash into cars and kill people? And other insurance rates and hospital costs, as these druggies run dangerous machinery while under the influence, do sensitive work like surgery, computer coding, counting your money correctly? I have NO respect for druggies and very little pity. Your problems are going to be waiting for you to come down off your latest high or low, and drugging yourself will not solve them.

Declare war on prescription pain medication and push the street drugs. It's all about greed and money. Many a revolution has been financed by drug profits. Maybe we should steal a page or two from their playbook.

A very well ‘educated’ work colleague was trying to explain the difference between the modern political views of conservative and liberals. Claiming conservatives care only about wealth. Liberals only power. B ephing S. Conservatives what only to keep what they've earned and maintain the Republic as founded. Liberals want power in order to take what others have labored for. It is they who see only skin color and opportunity to line their pockets. He tries to ovoid me as much as he can. I go out of my way to be a thorn in his side.
