About 20 wild boars have destroyed more than half a dozen lawns, neighbors say
Front yards are being ripped up in a San Jose neighborhood, and while residents are well aware of who the culprits are, there's very little they can do.
The torn-up lawns are the work of wild pigs on a feeding frenzy, residents said. They strike in the middle of the night, digging up lawns in the Evergreen neighborhood of South San Jose.
"They came in and ... I saw a huge pack of them, and they were effectively ripping up the sod," resident Rod Murchison said.
Murchison and his neighbors said there are about 20 of the wild boars, and they have destroyed more than half a dozen lawns in the neighborhood over the past week.
Kevin McFatridge lives up the street from Murchison. His front lawn looks like a war zone. The pigs even took out his geranium plants.
"We can handle a little patch here or there, but our entire lawn is now gone, and that's very frustrating," McFatridge said.
Murchison believes the pigs came from the ranchland across the street from his home. He said he had a similar problem about 10 years ago but it stopped after neighbors got together to secure a fence. Murchison even put up a device that shines a red light, simulating a pig predator. He hopes it will be enough to keep the hungry grub hunters away.
Murchison's 10-year-old daughter Katie built two fairy houses in the front yard. She's so worried about the pigs, she put up a warning.
"I put up the sign so the fairies would know not to come at night because the pigs might come," Katie said.
I guess no one explained to the poor girl that the fairies are in San Fransicko, not San Jose.

JAGER PRO Hog Trapping 101
I watch it nearly every time it’s on TV. Really good cast.
Thereyago!
And people keep building into them and butting up against the local fauna.
But I'm pretty darn sure they are not helpless. If a wild animal is destroying your property, you can probably shoot it.
Here in CA the Mountain Lions don't even mess with them. As far as I can tell they have no natural predators.
And I know they will not hesitate to kill dogs or humans.

Never heard of those-—learn something every day.

Oh my.... the geranium plants!!!
Have your neighbors come over with their dogs and let them wiz all over the place then take a few wizzes yourself. wild pigs are very skiddish and that may just make them nervous.
JaegerPro is a group of former Special Ops Senior NCOs who’ve applied their Operational & Tactical skills (as opposed to mere firepower) to the problem of reducing the feral pig population.
Systems analysis of the problem!
They have a very interesting series of videos.
It shows in the methodical and calm narration of the videos, as well as the logical layout of the video subject matter. Excellent - thanks for posting!
Rosie O’Donnell?
Once the garage freezer is full, “release” the subsequent pigs directly into the custody of the guy that sells carnitas out of the taco truck. Everybody wins.
Yes indeed - you'll get free tacos for the rest of your life. And one last thing - pass out flyers full of pictures of a grass-fed wild porcine federal wildlife land grant non-profit preserve where all of the pigs are "guaranteed" to be relocated (depending on what the meaning of "guaranteed," is). Then serve non-alcoholic, child-safe white wine and gluten-free morning-picked veggies on your lawn for an eco-celebration of non-violent peace-centered collective community solutions. (Dash in the house as needed for a beer and a bite of spare ribs).
Dude.
Don't give them anymore stupid ideas.

It's a generic concept. It's impossible to go into a Mexican part of town and make noise about wanting a pig smoked and not come up with somebody - usually somebody's brother who knows a guy - but they'll get er done!
Same with car repair and a lot of other things, actually. Mexicans are a very handy people! The legally-here ones are as down to earth as anyone you'd want to know. Total can-do attitude about things. And they go to church on Sunday.
I have no sympathy for people who complain about pigs on their property. They either won’t let shooters on their property or they charge thru the nose.
Never mind the "Grass fed"...
'It's the ACORNS that make great bacon
I read somewhere that NY restaurants were paying people to fly to Spain to bring back a side of acorn fed pig....sells for over $100 a small plate in NY.
(the reason is that the customs people got to know who the restaurant owners were)
I wonder if Vince Forster was smuggling in such prized bacon....?
