Samsung can't seem to catch a break with the Galaxy Note7 recall. For a while it looked like the replacement devices would put the exploding battery concerns to bed, but now it appears that the saga may be far from over.
The new batteries may no longer be a fire hazard, but follow-up reports from customers who have received replacement Galaxy Note7 units in South Korea reveal that they come with their own set of issues.
The batteries that Samsung uses in the replacement Galaxy Note7 units are said to overheat and lose battery life quickly. The first issue has not caused any device to catch fire so far, though, and can actually be considered as normal given the fact that the smartphone makes use of fast charging technology to top up its 3,500mAh battery rather quickly.
The battery life issue is unexpected and, quite possibly, more pressing. Customers say that the battery usage graph on their new units shows "inconsistent" charging. A report claims that a replacement Galaxy Note7 lost 40 percent charge "quickly" -- and overheated -- after being plugged in for charging.
Another customer reports that their new Galaxy Note7 lost 26 percent charge -- dropping from 75 percent to 49 percent -- in 39 minutes. A third report says that a new Galaxy Note7 lost one percentage point of charge every second while the device reported being charged.
These could very well be software issues which Samsung could easily fix through a software update, but whatever the reason for these problems the company better fix them as soon as possible. Most customers will probably forgive it for making them go through the hassle of exchanging affected Galaxy Note7s, but they will surely have a problem with receiving units touted to be "safe" that still fail to work as expected.

Ping for your Android list.
This is the Galaxy Android Firestarter App.
It is a featured app.
Wish I had known about that app when I needed matches the other day to start the BBQ...
I’m waiting for the S9. :-}
The old S4 is doing fine.
The S8 looks good too if rumor holds.
Pretty good argument for user replaceable batteries.
Drill a 3.5mm hole in it to let the heat out.
use at least two holes, and then pump water with anti-freeze solution through it to better cool it down. That will be even better. . .
Yep, which is what most note users wanted. It's a supposed to be a functional device compared to apples crappy iphone.
This is just more FUD from a couple of unconfirmed sources in South Korea. A non-issue.
I believe there's a micro-pump already in there...all you need is the piping and anti-freeze.
My S4 still works great, though the original battery had swollen. I upgraded a couple of weeks ago to the LG V10. I WILL have my replaceable battery, dammit!
I predict they may reconsider the value of doing away with replaceable battery’s. That is a good thing.
just got an LG tablet, v940.. After an Asus tablet with a mind of its own.
Haven’t had any battery issue! Knock on wood.
Going to wait for the V20. It's too bad about the Notes. I have liked my Note 4.
Just the same, take the back off of your S4 and check your battery. Spare batteries are cheap on Amazon.
In other words, the Samsung spokesman spoke before Samsung had determined exactly what the problem was.
No, if you would read what was written, they know it’s not the batteries, it’s other issues and they are tracking it down.
I know you love to spread FUD, but this is kind of really over-the-top.
Well, there is ONE very good thing Apple does well, not perfect, but very well: TESTING! Things work well with Apple. Not always (my iPhone 4 dialed 911 for just about every voice command), but this Samsung problem would be very surprising if an Apple product did this.
Who is running that disaster of a company at Samsung?? Even their appliances are becoming a consumer nightmare. Their phones are having inexcusable problems.
Sad things is, no one will lose their job over this. They’ll all just chalk it up to a “technical glitch” and pay themselves billions in bonuses.
“No, if you would read what was written, they know its not the batteries, its other issues and they are tracking it down.”
Still a battery life issue regardless of the causation.
I’m no Apple fan, but I am by far a worse enemy of managerial incompetence such as what we are seeing with Samsung.
