Linda Cohen ESPN just announced on TV. Other reports on SB Nation. Terrible news- terrific young pitcher.
Cory Lidle, slamming a small plane into a building - this was in years after 9/11 too, I believe,
I suppose you could have some fun if you were very careful.
Makes you wonder if someone fell asleep at the wheel while traveling at a high rate of speed.
Maybe in the Many Worlds interpretation of quantum mechanics....
Jose was a good one. Lord console his family, and lead his soul’s way toward You.
Shockingly, ESPN reporters talking about he appreciated so much for being in the US after defecting from Cuba.
Colon Crapper should take a lesson and stop with the Communist Power Fist salute that disrespects America.
Darryl Kile (Cards), Josh Hancock (Cards), Jose Olivia (Cards), and Lyman Bostock (Angels) are a few more I can remember who died while still active players. Bostock was murdered.
Not finding much about the accident other than the boat overturned after hitting rocks and at least 2 others died with Jose. One article said he was a Cuban defector.
Or just couldn’t see in the dark.
Nothing good happens after midnight.
I wouldn’t be surprised if alcohol and speed were involved. Two other people also died.
An almost weekly occurance here at Lake of the Ozarks.
High powered boats, adult beverages, too much speed in the dark.
Wow, he was a true talent. RISP. I recall a story that he rescued his mother when she feel overboard as they were trying to escape Cuba.

Defected with his Mother at age 15 after three failed attempts from Cuba.
Finished high school in Tampa and then drafted by the Marlins.
38-17 with a 2.58 ERA for his career. His home record is so dominant it also blows your imagination.
I’m a big lacrosse fan but when I felt like watching a game down here (I live in Boca Raton) I made sure to tune in his starts.
The only person down here who was bigger in the Cuban community was Gloria Estefan and I’d argue he was on his way to bigger things.
“Severe impact” was used in one article. Two found underwater, one above.
Coast Guard will have presser later this morning.
“Colon Crapper should take a lesson”
Yes, good point. Fernandez risked his life to come here, and get his family here. He saved his mom in the water, and didn’t even know it was his mom he was saving.
Baseball is not a “white man’s game” (Adam Jones) - it’s a game that functions so much better with (legal) immigrants who know how great this country is.
Correction:
2 above water
1 underwater
Could be.
I immediately thought of the rocks I’ve seen at marinas to stop erosion. Those usually have some lights around.
This could have been on the open ocean near shore I suppose. In that case, you couldn’t see them could you.
Those were my thoughts too. I decided not to mention it. Seems pretty obvious.
Yahoo link I followed had a pic of the boat overturned on the breakwall. The article also mentioned his Instagram account...he was soon to be a father.
In any event, sympathy extended to his family.
You wouldn't see rocks or much else at that hour.
Very sad event, anyway. It seems like he was a young man with a lot of potential, both as an athlete and as a citizen.
