Bull manure. There is no reason to believe that the North Carolina National Guard can't handle things.

However, this is the closest location of US Military Troops to Charlotte. We will continue to bring your the latest news as it develops.

I believe Fort Bragg is closer.

My guess is they don’t want any of their people involved.

They will not move an active Marine unit against a civilian US population. The governor has control on this one with the national guard.

If true, perhaps they wanted to keep some Marines from participating in the festivities?

Even if true (doubtful), Marines on this kind of alert wouldn’t have anything to do with Charlotte. October Surprise?

I’m a former Marine, I’ve seen this happen before - they don’t want anyone involved with what’s happening in Charlotte, so they are ordering them to stay on base.

Was in the 101st in 1967 and they flew us from Ft. Campbell parked us in an airport hangar in the Detroit area, but we were never called into the riot area.

Also, we have learned that President Obama is planning to address the crisis in the next few days.

The next few days? I guess he wants Charlotte to burn a little longer.

It appears the worst is over. Relatively peaceful last night.

If true, probably means they are deploying overseas.

It’s illegal to use Marines for riot control on U.S. soil. That’s what the National Guard is for. If this was actually true, it would be more likely they would fly somewhere overseas for a contingency.

The article is BS.

The closest to Charlotte is Ft Bragg.

First, I don't think anything's going to happen Charlotte tonight. It seems last night was pretty tame, and all the organized protests for tonight are to be in Atlanta.

I do wonder however, if the Marines are going to be sent to Mosul, where a final push against ISIS is set to happen in a few weeks. I'm just not sure if Obama will have us fighting for or against ISIS in this one.

More likely bound for Syria than Charlotte. Wag the dog...

All Zero has to do to end Charlotte is pick up the phone. Which will happen as soon as he sees it is hurting Hillary...unless he wants to hurt Hillary. Which is entirely possible.

Several problems with this “account.” First of all, the term “back to base.” Where were they to begin with? In the field (Lejeune has a huge range complex) On ship? Their location is important, since it would give some idea of their level of readiness. If the battalion just returned from a deployment (say, to Afghanistan), they’re not likely to deploy. Ditto for units on the lower end of the deployment cycle, that is, they’ve been back for a while, but need more training and equipment maintenance to get ready to go again.

Secondly, a Marine battalion brings a lot of capability to the table, but if more military support is needed in Charlotte, the logical source is the North Carolina National Guard (specifically the military police units). Deploying the Marines would violate posse comitatus, it would also require the order of the president. I don’t rule out anything with this bunch, but I’ve seen no sign that even Obama is preparing for that draconian step.

Finally, if a Marine battalion at Lejeune is truly on alert, I’d be much more worried about something overseas, rather than the situation in Charlotte.

Maybe they’re gonna invade Bermuda.

Only another hundred miles or so to the island...and they could swim there.
