As a Gonzaga student and a journalist, I am very confused about the hiring of Dr. Melissa Click to work in the communication studies department. Our mission statement says we are devoted to social justice and encouraging ethical discernment, reflective thought and leadership. So I am wondering how this decision keeps with our Catholic, Jesuit and humanistic heritage.
Click is someone who attempted to stifle the coverage of protests regarding racial inequality by trying to stop professional and student journalists from spreading the news of what was happening at the University of Missouri. I question her motives and ethical discernment in becoming physical with those at the scene, asking for more muscle and using her race and gender as an excuse for her firing.
Although she did apologize to those involved, refusing to be more transparent with the media and students at her new school shows a lack of reflection on her part. And someone with such a questionable past should not be asked to be a leader in the classroom, regardless of her qualifications.
Good professors are the foundation of a college education and what make a university great. Students spend several hours each day in class with professors learning what the teacher believes is important. My history professor mentioned how each instructor focuses on different aspects of history in their lectures that were molded by their opinions, experiences and beliefs.
Any other subject is the same way with Clicks experiences going viral, what she highlights as important in her classes should also be questioned.

And that right there folks is the problem.
Someone actually hired this idiot? More evidence that academia is circling the drain
Elisabeth Mermann-Jozwiak, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Gonzaga, chose to hire Melissa Click.
I think we’ve now learned that “social justice” is just code words for anti-Christian and Jewish hatred.
Seems Jesuit Universities are always on the wrong side.
Snuck her in on a 1 year non-tenure job, and they will transfer her to a lifetime position soon.
Guessing that Melissa Glick is Jewish......why the hell don’t they hire CATHOLICS at a CATHOLIC SCHOOL!!
“keeps with our Catholic, Jesuit and humanistic heritage”

That is seriously the name of the school?
I would like to hear from some of Ms. Merman-Jozwiak’s former students; the ones who took whatever classes she taught before she was promoted to Dean. I’m willing to bet it was a propaganda fest of man-hating combined with “Soviet Communism Here and Now.”
There's no contradiction. When you start talking "social justice", you literally open the doors to the likes of Click.
“That is seriously the name of the school?”
Gonzaga University is a private Roman Catholic university located in Spokane, Washington, United States. Founded in 1887 by the Society of Jesus, it is one of 28 member institutions of the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities. It is named for the young Jesuit saint Aloysius Gonzaga.

There should be no course like this. What job would they be qualified for?
“Our mission statement says we are devoted to social justice and encouraging ethical discernment, reflective thought and leadership.”
I guess she’ll teach journalism at Gonzaga in the spirit of “Pravda” and Joseph Goebbels.
When I studied journalism there were fewer people who thought like her, but I do remember them.
I am sure she is not alone in her attitude, our universities are full of those who want to control and politicize news, ignoring what doesn’t fit their template.....
If we are honest with ourselves, isn’t that what MSNBC and CNN do for one of the Uniparties every day and Fox News does it for the other.
Sounds like less useful a class than basket-weaving.

I’m so tired of smug, angry females.
