Based on what my friends have, I never would have guessed that iPhones represent a small share of the market.

That is a snapshot of what is being SOLD NOW, not the number in use around the world. The reason that is so low now is because people are waiting for the new iPhone 7 to be released this month. There are over 1.3 Billion iOS devices sold and about 1 billion still in use around the world.

Did you hear about the Imperial Storm Trooper who bought an I phone?

He could not find the android he was looking for.

The last time I upgraded, at the badgering of children and friends, I tried an iphone. The first time I pulled up FR, the text on screen was so tiny I couldn’t read it, and no way to enlarge it. I took it back and got my Galaxy S-4. Text size infinitely variable!

The fees, which can range from $40,000 to $75,000, are part of a largely hidden production process for the hundreds of large and small manufacturers in the mobile device industry.

Those fees are small change in the mobile phone or for that matter any consumer electronics industry. They might matter to some 4th tier Asian phone cloner, but they are insignificant to any of the top 3 tiers of phone vendors.

> I love my windows phone, but the lack of phone choices

I just replaced my lumia that died with a BLU Win HD and love it. $85 and an awesome windows phone. BLU has great inexpensive androids too. They don’t market so people don’t know them but that makes it cheaper.

Google wants to know _everything_ for data mining & targeted advertising. Android does that far more than you imagine.

Hmmm... The image is all about market share. What definition of “dominant” do you expect me to use?

And again - how does Apple making more profit benefit the consumer? You know, you could always just send Apple a Jackson if you want to help their bottom line!

The image isn’t about users. It is sales in the first half of the year.

Apple dominates every other manufacturer in profitability.

Don’t you love it? One OS that runs on ALL THOSE PLATFORMS! It’s about consumer choice - and the consumer has a massive number of features and options for the consumer.

Removable/expandable memory.

One, two or three screens.

On-screen Qwerty, physical Qwerty, or 10 key (incredibly functional for logogram languages like Japanese).

Single, dual, or even triple SIMs for those who travel.

Stylii or not.

Gotta love the options you can choose. The flexibility, the selection. And we haven’t even begun to talk about the ability for the user to change the UI to what they want. You aren’t forced into a single “opinion” about what’s best.

What’s not to love?

Apple dominates every other manufacturer in profitability.

And how is that beneficial for the consumer? Or do you revel in giving extra money to someone else?

Awesome option! That’s the kind of thing you get with an open OS... Competition is a great thing!
