An Oklahoma magazine is stirring up controversy.
Inside Friday’s Daily Ardmoreite edition was this season’s Southern Oklahoma Living magazine.
When Gene Autry’s mayor, Kyle Lawson, saw the cover his jaw nearly dropped.
“My first initial reaction was I almost spit my coffee out when I first saw it,” Lawson said.
On the cover is a baby in a costume supposed to resemble the tin man.
“Just the way that the hood kind of goes up and the handle for the tin man`s hat is kind of hidden behind the 'I',” Lawson said. “And just the way the flap comes down on the side it looks like one of the Klansmen baby outfits.”
Others are weighing in on the controversial image.
“I wouldn`t have thought of that when I first looked at it. No, but I didn`t think of the tin man either, but I didn`t see nothing wrong with it,” Ardmore resident Tasha Kinney said.
“KKK. That`s what I thought,” Kirk Rushing, an Ardmore community leader, said.
The Ardmoreite publishes the magazine and a number of people are asking for the paper to apologize.
“As bad as we hate to say it we live in a world where you have to be cautious,” Rushing said.
News Channel 4 stopped by to talk to the publisher.
She was not there, but we got a copy of Sunday’s paper.
In it she wrote an article titled “Friday was a sad day in Ardmore”.

She wrote, "Unfortunately, with the current climate in the country, even the most innocuous imagery can be misconstrued into something hateful and destructive."
The article went on to say, "I don't have a formal apology but here's what I will say, if you were offended by the photo I'm sorry you didn't see what I saw. Or what I'm sure many other people saw -- a child dressed as an iconic character from one of the most beloved films of the Twentieth Century."
We are told the costume was store bought.
One local woman said she is taking the picture to the NAACP.
Too many snowflakes are going around trying to finds things to be offended by.
I expected to see Clint Eastwood talking to that chair.
Next time, please put the /sarc tag. I almost took you seriously.
I happened to see a KKK gathering once—it was on the property next door to a place I was visiting—and there were little kids dressed up in costumes that looked just like this. It was scary, and not in a funny Halloween costume kind of way.
I shudder to think how this story would have turned out if the things that nearly and almost happened had actually happened.
Maybe I should have included a comment about the Cosmetic surgery being an obvious reference to Michael Jackson’s race change procedures. I still haven’t figured out what’s behind that ‘Fall Events Calendar’ reference, however.

No, actually you need to do the exact opposite. Carry zero racism, be yourself, and if someone gets offended, that is for them to deal with. It’s false to make it your problem when the hypersensitive snowflakes freak out.

Maybe the baby was identifying as a hybrid Tin-KKK type.

Years ago. while an editor for a major military newspaper, we had an award winner in my office.
Good looking, 20-something black man. We photographer him in front of our command building. And published it front page news, it was a big deal award after all.
Unfortunately a palm tree, with the brown short cut chris-cross leaf pattern on the trunk was right behind his head and neck.
It looked like a rope.
Man, the hate mail and phone calls I got!!!
Even though the guy personally approved the photo and page layout, along with 6 other people, I took a huge hit for this!!
I can laugh now, but at the time I was not happy.
Really ..?? Geeeee .. anybody paying attention to what is going on in this country should have seen the resemblance right away .. and made phone calls or written letters in order to put a stop to it.
