From wikipedia
“Brian Wilson cited the song as his attempt to capture the essence of his all-time favorite record, “Be My Baby” by the Ronettes. Wilson estimates he has listened to the song “more than 1,000 times.”

Two great songs. Paul McCartney once said one of his all time favorite songs was “God only knows.” Hard to argue with Sir Paul.

Good harmony is really a lost art when it comes to popular music. These guys were one of the best ever, maybe the best, in that regard.

1964. A kinder, gentler time.

It’s a beautiful song. The last vestiges of an innocent America.

I once saw an interview with Carl Wilson and, if memory serves, Carl said that when Brian Wilson handed him the lyrics to “God Only Knows” it blew him away and he was amazed that he was the one that got to sing it. Great, great song.

How about Beach Boys and “Be True to Your School”
In H/S the time of this release, ready to begin an ‘adult life journey’ but the excitement of H/S graduation, big football games was summed up perfectly in this song.

I remember seeing a documentary, or maybe just a movie, about the Beach Boys and how their manager screwed them over. It was not exactly uplifting. LOL

Back then, everybody got screwed over.
Led Zeppelin learned that lesson, that’s why they hired an ex-wrestler for their manager.
