A recent New York Times article noted that celebrity parents are favoring "post-gender" or "gender agnostic" names for their newborns. The piece cites examples like Megan Fox and Brian Austin Green, who named their son "Journey," and Dax Shepard and Kristen Bell, who named their second daughter "Delta" (their first daughter? "Lincoln").
"Gender-blurring baby names are on the rise among American parents," the article notes.
The old Boy Named Sue idea of a boy being shamed by having a girls name is passing away, Pamela Redmond Satran, a founder of the baby-naming website Nameberry, told the Times. Last December, Nameberry called "post-gender" names (that is, a name given to both boys and girls in roughly equal measure) the biggest trend for 2016. Today, boys named Tatum feel as cool as girls named Rory, and vice versa.

There are exceptions. One is the name Mitsuyo: when written as 光世 it is a male name, but when written as 美鶴代 it is a female name. Ayako Miura, the 20th century Japanese Christian novelist, wrote in her autobiography that one of the reasons she was able to build a relationship with her future husband was that his name was Mitsuyo Miura, and that if his name had been the more common Mitsuo, her parents would have thought it unseemly for an unmarried woman in the 1950s to become friends with a man.
I know Dick too.
“The male genitalia will be treated like an unwanted mole, surgeons will be overpaid Lorena Bobbitts.”
Kind of like how the muzzards treat their little girls.
You’ve named the reality - not the song or the joke. Good for you jsanders.
Shirley actually used to be a boy’s name. Along with Evelyn and Beverly. Once people started giving those names to girls, they lost favor as boys’ names. Back when nobody wanted their boy to have a “sissy” name.
They're out there you know.....thousands of them !
Won't have the same luck with Chuck. 😎
A friend of mine has a friend in Colorado, I think, named Dick Head. He introduces himself that way, not Richard Head.
In Santa Fe a guy named Peter Handler had a liquor store with his name in huge letters above it. Always made me snicker.
Then there was always Doctor Seymour Butts, but I am not sure he was as real as the others I mentioned.
Thus the Follywood airheads come up with names for children such as “Blue” and “Apple.” This destroys the concept of male, female and family and is a rebellion against how God made the world.
My feeling was when you're dealing with people who want attention they'll have to keep ‘upping the ante’ to get our attention. That could be dangerous. Our side needs to hire a bunch of social psychologist and start fighting these people back on the turf they're using.
Our moral indignation with their cruel antics just goads them on to more offensive antics. And yeah, I hate them too and I sense how dangerous they are...
Named for the perfume?
If you name a boy “Marion” he may later change it to
“John Wayne”
Rebellion against Natural Law is direct rebellion against the Author of Natural Law.
It’s disgusting and destructive.
I’ve noticed this for a long time. Girls name “McKenzie” etc. Boys named “Sky”. And of course the made up random syllables that aren’t even real words.
I used to work with a man named Richard Head. But enough of that.
Marion is a traditional male name, just out of use.
That’s a sad story. Yes, something wrong with the mother. Very sad that the boy paid the price.
Ignoring their fiendish fixation wtih sexual perversion and rebellion against readon and Natural Law has gotten us where we are.
They DEMAND submission, just like Islam.
Fighting back is the only solution, just like with Islam.
I give up.
