Portland Public Schools officials are rethinking a district ban on rap music on buses after allegations of racism.
The district had banished hip-hop from its buses, deeming the genre "inappropriate."
Teri Brady, senior director of transportation at Portland Public Schools, sent a directive to bus drivers in March forbidding "religious, rap music, or talk show programs." The memo included a list of acceptable stations, broken down into three genres: pop, country and jazz.
Parent Colleen Ryan-Onken obtained a copy and it circulated in August among outraged parents, prompting the district to walk back the directive in statements released Wednesday.

Because religion and religious music is equivalent to rap if you're an ignorant liberal.
Rip the damn radios out. Ridiculous that they exist in the first place.
How did all the clueless liberals wind up on our coasts? It almost makes you wish that global warming was true.
Would they allow “Soul Train” if it were still on?
Music is like candy: You throw the (w)rappers away....
Some really unexpected good common sense in Portlandia.
They should play Rush
RAP music is racist.
Centrifugal force.
Rap and music have nothing in common
They’re right; rap “music” is entirely inappropriate. “Music to get angry by” is what I call it.
That said, I kind of see protesters’ point, if they’re going to ban rap but allow country and jazz. Seems to me, the best solution is just to turn off the radios altogether. Or, if they must play something, play classical music.
Keep crying “racism” over everything. Only helps Trump.
One of the whitest cities in America banning rap. Well... Guess the demographics of most shootings and homicides? Guess the name of the BLVD running through the most only violent part of the city?
The talk show host, or the Canadian power trio?
If it’s pre-90’s Soul Train, I’d be all for it.
There are some excellent Youtube vids of some really great Soul Train performances from the 70’s and 80’s.
We always had music in the school buses-it was tuned into a local pop station. Classical music may have kept us even quieter. I can’t imagine the long drives without the radio-drivers would get bored.
“If its pre-90s Soul Train, Id be all for it.”
I hated Soul Train. It meant cartoons were over.
Haha....true.

Nothing like Neil Peart to get you going in the morning.
