No one thought this could happen.
The NFL went into a lockout to prevent things like this from happening. It seemed to be one of the only things that the NFL Players’ Association and the league’s owners agreed upon in that lockout.
Yet, somehow, there’s a rookie holdout.

Spanos has been stubborn with the Chargers from day one. He doesn’t like to pay people. ;-) I often wonder if he is simply doing the owner’s bidding.

The NFL doesn’t give a lot of leeway in rookie contracts. Why should he give up on something all the other people drafted after him are getting?
While I don’t think the Chargers move is the right one, in the end Bosa should sign the next offer they put on the table. He really has nothing to gain by continuing to hold out. If he’s going to play football this year it will be for the Chargers, period. If he doesn’t when he’s eligible for the draft again next year he’ll have not played football in over a year, and he’ll be considered a problem player. His best case is being drafted in the 3rd round, and more than likely he’ll drop to the 6th. If he signs, he plays, and yeah he’s stuck in SD for 3 or 4 years, but he’ll have a chance to prove himself and can then enter the free agent market and play for anybody but SD. Play the long game son, do your time in purgatory, do it well, and write your own ticket out of town.

Wait it out and then come to Dallas. Jerry has plenty of money, you’d get to play with your former OSU teammate Elliot, and we could use the help on defense!!!

Sign, and promply get busy showing what you can do on the field. IF possible.
Go ahead, sit out and get drafted lower next year for less money. From what I understand, the money he should get is already set/guaranteed and is tied to his draft position. I believe he is holding out because he doesn’t like the way the payment plan is set up. Like it or not, he is only hurting himself by holding out.
Cheap shot artist wants more money...
If they aren't willing to abide by the terms of a first round draft pick, they should trade their first round pick and only draft in later rounds.

He can't do that. The NFL and the players association created a template for rookie contracts. There isn't a huge range of what a player can get, at least for the first few rounds. The number 6 overall pick, can't get more money than the number 5 overall pick.
Wonder if Bosa can challenge this in court, he could be the NFL's "Curt Flood."
It's supposed to make everyone happy. Rookies used to have no restrictions. (Except they had to sign with the team that drafted the. See John Elway) This was supposed to make things right. San Diego is the only team that can't play by the rules.

The NFL and the Player's Association should intervene. It's their rule.
It’s not unprecedented, it’s just not usually done that way for top 10 picks. Of course part of this is the team. Because the Chargers stink when they do something unusual everybody figures it’s dumb. If this was the Pats were holding this line everybody would be talking about how smart they are for not doing the usual thing.
They’re perfectly willing to abide by the terms of a first round draft pick, they just don’t want to take more risk for a higher salary player than they’d normally do for a lower salary player. It’s actually kind of reasonable for a team that’s going to pay more signing bonus to not also want less ability to recoup.
