dear austin,

d’at, uh, preacha boy don’ kno’ wah he be doin’, so’s ah’s let him go.

Now, for real, thanks for the vote of confidence. I am inland in ‘CENLA’, all 85 feet above sea level, on a hill, upstairs, so that’s another 25 feet up, heheh.

(Also, too, with the river running between us, “a pair of green eyes” on the other bank of the river!)

Dear lib, your point has been raised, and why i did this, to give notice and voice to all who wish.

Also note this, the regional newspaper went to a ‘facebook only’ setup a few years back, because of the vox populi wanting torches and pitchforks for the head of the school board!

dear hippy,

let’s see ... I was a bookkeeping student at one time in my life:

Total Revenue 2,974,133,836.00
Total LIABILITY 1,577,198,700.00

REVENUE MINUS LIABILITY EQUALS PROFIT: $1,396,935,136.00

How can The Red Cross, which has been advertised as a NONPROFIT ORGANIZATION, for years, make a PROFIT of over ONE BILLION DOLLARS?????

They used to want my blood all the time because I have the universal reciepient type. Is that A negative? I forgot.

Anyway, I humored them for awhile, but didn't appreciate the trip downtown with competitive parking.

Especially since a local Lutheran Church started doing it. Those ladies make great sammiches! Not just a can of pop and packaged cookie. Real food. So I tell them I'm saving it for the Lutheran ladies now.

dear scythe,

re:
‘You can’t just allow any ol’ person to cook a meal and drop it off. ‘

What about your neighbors, when they barbeque? Or the neighbors bringing cakes and pies to a gathering? What about those potluck meals at your church gatherings?

If you could not cook a meal, for some blamed reason, and somebody you knew offered to do it, would you be the idiot and refuse???

"Is that A negative? I forgot."

Not sure without Googling, but I believe O+ to be the universal blood type. I'm AB-, the rarest. I often think of storing a supply of my type in a local blood bank.

I despise the Red Cross. All they care about is the money.

According to the poster, he would since it is non-sanctioned government food. So, everyone is going to get sick/die from home-grilled bbq's, house party dinners, block party dishes, hotdog stands, etc. The (2) times I had food poisoning was from fast food...never from a grilled anything. Hell, I even ate the grilled "mystery meat" on the streets of Masaysay in the Philippines. They claimed it was pork, but we suspected dog and rat. Never got sick. What a putz.

Actually they have other liabilities (office costs, travel, advertisement, etc.). The Red Cross actually ran in the red that year but had other assets and endowment funds to make up for the remainder.

See the form 990 (at the link I provided in pdf format) for more detail. All I was saying was that wages were approx. 7 times the amount of grants. If I had a couple or three TRILLION dollars, I bet I could help a lot more people than the Red Cross even comes close to.

Thanks for your interest.

Regards,
HLB

Sounds like you trust only the government. This is probably the wrong site for you.

By the way, I tried to reconstruct my pathway to ensure correct addressing. My link goes to a dead end, sorry.

This is better:

https://projects.propublica.org/nonprofits/organizations/530196605

(at their website select “2014 , Download Form 990”)

Total form is 87 pages long and has much detail.

You can’t just allow any ol’ person to cook a meal and drop it off. What the hell is that? If they want to help let them donate money or food-read-to-eat.

The Red Cross is more of a long term provider than an emergency provider immediately
after the disaster. Once they get set up with their facilities, etc they can prepare
meals but it takes them a few days to get people in, set up and rolling. Short term is much
more with the locals who have some type means to provide. Just my experience from
being involved with serveral hurricanes.

Isn't their contribution split something like Red Cross 75% recipients 25%?

Yet there is not enough information to jump to a condemnation.....Seriously, there is. They want donations of money, ONLY. It’s hard to split up up a hot meal with people in Washington. Lizzy Dole don’t want none!!

Thanks. There is a nice table about halfway down on this site.

Basically, AB+ is the universal recipient so can take blood from anybody. O- is the universal donor so can donate to anyone. A- (which I have), and B- are the next most useful blood types for donations since the negative types can donate to either - or + of the same blood type or either AB, but not O. O+ can only donate to any positive blood type.

So as AB negative, you actually have the choice of four other blood types as sources of donations, but can only donate to AB- or AB+.
