They are supposed to be good eating.
Caused me to jump about three feet when I was out running on O dark 30 morning in Gamboa, Panama.
Just very large guniea pigs. And we all know guniea pigs are cute.
Great. 100 pound rats. Another reason to avoid FL.
We used to have LOTS of Nutria around NE Florida years back. They were a real nuisance on golf courses. Out in the boonies they were fun to shoot. Maybe these things will be too. Haven’t seen any yet.
I recall a few being released in the 90’s in N. Florida. They were shot by some local hunters who didn’t really know what they were.
I should certainly hope so! It’s a good way to make Florida even crazier.
“Capybara sits in the old gum tree...”
Oops! Wrong critter, wrong continent, LOL!
"The capybara that are being seen today are most likely the descendents of escaped captives, but people still find fossilized capybara teeth and bones from Floridas original capybara in the Santa Fe, Suwannee, St Marks and St Marys Rivers in North Florida. You may also find capybara fossils in springs and spring runs like the Ichneetucknee River."

Now, my questions are, what is a good caliber and load to use? What will be the bag limit? :)

In Before The First “They Taste Like Chicken”!
When I was in Africa, these were called supper.
While in the field, they would run up to these, grap them by the tails and spin them like a bucket of water so they wouldn’t get bit and then find something to hit their head with.
Good eating for the pythons.
Right, all we need is large rodents. Florida pet owners are a menace.
Right, there has to be something around to feed the invasive Burmese Pythons.
BBQ? Capybara steak? Roast haunch of Capybara?
Or do they taste like crap?
They have to feed the Burmese Pythons somehow.
Florida lost a lot of subtropical/tropical animals and plants during the last ice age and it is ripe for recolonization. The range of tropical and subtropical species in Mexico has been creeping north for 10,000 years. The Armadillo is a perfect example. It has naturally expanded its range from Texas to most of the southeast: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nine-banded_armadillo
