I would imagine it is too cold in Winter in Maine for pythons? Last sighting in June...maybe it was brought in from Florida and dumped/abandoned??? Winter will kill it??

Wouldn’t an expert be able to tell type of snake from the skin? Many questions!

This is most likely a big black snake. Excellent to have around as they kill many rats and mice.

I welcome them on the farm and would never kill or harm one.

I remember being told that Maine was the only state without snakes. Back when I was young and impressionable.

Rattlesnakes come pretty large. I’ve read that Eastern Diamondbacks are found that are eight foot in length according to my DI at Fort Gorden, GA. Of course that’s back in 1964 as we were were going on bivouac. Things were exaggerated frequently for effect.

They found this snake inside the fire department building at Cubi Point (Subic Bay, PI) back around 1969-70 when I lived on the base.

They pulled it out and sent it over the the JEST facility school (Jungle Environmental Survival Training) where they taught escape and evasion courses, and one of my best friend's fathers worked there as a trainer (He was a medical officer) and he ended up with the skin. I didn't know anything about it at the time, so one day I was over at his house, and he brought out this big thing (there was nobody else home at the time) and he said "do you want to see something really cool?"

He stood in the main corridor of his house and threw it like he was bowling the thing that was wound like a firehose, which unrolled that entire snakeskin and it went all the way down the hallway!

It was the same snake as the one in the picture, I believe.
