American truckers, and the big rigs they drive, are literally the lifeblood of this nation, transporting food, raw materials and finished goods from one end of the country to the other and back again, delivering what is needed where it is needed when it is needed on a daily basis.
But those truckers just had a major roadblock placed in their way, courtesy of President Barack Obamas Environmental Protection Agency, and the consequences for not only the trucking industry, but America as a whole, could be devastating.
According to The Daily Caller, the EPA just announced on Tuesday that it had yet again made changes to the fuel emissions standards that govern big rig semi-trucks, large work trucks, vans and buses, all in the name of fighting the ever-elusive climate change.
Of course, many in the trucking industry will find it incredibly difficult and costly to meet these strict new standards that take effect in 2018, especially when they are already struggling to meet the heightened standards just put in place a few years ago.
This is particularly true for small businesses and independent truckers, so the administration has given them an out that reeks of Chicago-style extortion.
Yes, the EPA has instituted a special fine that can be paid by those who fail to comply with the new standards, allowing them to continue their business operations, for a price. There is no word on exactly how this fine will magically make their vehicles no longer pollute or be considered harmful to the environment.
I read on here somewhere few years back, the reasons trucks to not take part in shut downs, if the rig is there they cannot afford it and if Company owned they will lose their jobs.?? Have no idea if true, but does make sense.
Climate change is a scam intended to reduce America (and other leading industrialized nations) to third world status.
Maybe our truckers will be the salvation for us all against this madness if they decide to do a rolling protest.
it’s a tax which is not OFFICIALLY a tax.
“If you like your doctor, you can keep him”
It would cost $$, but wouldn’t it be fun if only a few large trucking companies routed all of the 95 truck traffic through the center of DC?
Well, that is something I honestly expect to happen.
Insult to injury- “admit your guilt, pay the fine and we’ll leave you alone...for now”
President Trump will take care of business (i.e., end the “Climate Change scam the Ophonybama administration insists on foisting on America!), and put the EPA back into its closet.
A...............................MEN!!!!
Since I was a truck driver for 5 years, I hated the Mexicans that thought they could shut us down...
Their trucks are very unsafe, and when we would check into a ‘chicken coop’ we would hear stories that half of them didn’t have CDLs and some of the trucks didn’t even have insurance on them, and they were dirty and the drivers were worse...
US Trucking is the safest there is, we have a lot of laws to abide by and the companies that we drive for do obey the laws and so do the independent owners, and IOs hated Mexican drivers worse than we Company drivers did...
my Freightliner has been in the shop 6 times in the last 3 months over the DEF piss burner. The whole DEF is a scam.
He has to win it first.
Piss off the Truckers ,Barry.
Hillary, what’s Your Pleasure?
My Fishing buddy recently retired bought a new Diesel ... it was in the shop more than not.. DEF problems, he did the Lemon thing, got another same problems.
He is driving a Gas Hemi now
STRIKE STRIKE STRIKE TRUCKERS!! There is no measurable global warming! None ZERO IT IS A LIE!!
Oh, just like the elite ruling class in any turd-world dictatorship or communist hell-hole; he will get his good stuff. The rest of us are screwed though.
The problem with citizen journalists is they cannot write for shit.
Man, PREACH IT! Drives me crazy.
Thank God there was not a critical patient in the back.
I keep asking the powers that be why we are not buying used trucks and refurbing them instead of new.
Ford seems to get their shorts in a wad every few years regarding emergency vehicles and make a bunch of rash decisions.
Wonder who will back down this time? Several years (2010?)the engine manufacturers all said they were pulling out of the emergency market because the EPA demanded they re-certify the entire vehicle because the frame was 1/4” longer or whatever than what it was certified for. It is rare to see 2 identical fire trucks unless it is for a big city.
It's now gotten worse. Nearly every Mexican truck driver I pass is swerving and driving 10 mph under the speed limit as he's texting with both hands on the interstate.
