Fisher House is my favorite charity.

“Goodwill has become a money grubbing cesspool for high paid executives.”
And the employees steal whatever they want from the donations as they come in.
I’ve donated several to the Dallas Can Academy, a local organization. You might want to see who is doing work in your local area as opposed to some national outfit.
“And the employees steal whatever they want from the donations as they come in.”
So what?
I’m sure the donors don’t care and I doubt that the employees make much money.

As an aside, please don’t forget to remove the license plates before they take possession of the truck.
Also, you will want to check with your local DMV to cancel your vehicle registration (especially important if the vehicle is still drivable). Rules vary from state to state on what the exact process is for a donated vehicle, but it’s up to you to inform the DMV that the vehicle is no longer in your possession or under your ownership. When I donated mine (years ago) there was a form to complete and send in to DMV. If you don’t do this, and somebody else drives the vehicle, and gets a ticket or is in an accident, if the vehicle wasn’t reregistered, they can come back to you as the registered owner, even if you have transferred title.
If you can sell the truck, sell it and donate the money. Most of the charities that take cars contract with salvage yards to pick up the car and the salvage yard passes on a flat sum that may be as low as ten dollars.
Kars for Kids is well known because of its advertising on the radio. The money goes to Hasidic schools in Lakewood NJ run by the founder of Kars for Kids.
Kars For Kids pass-thru iirc is in the 30% range. NRA Cars for Freedom was in the 80’s.
Easy choice. And don’t fund annoying jingles.
NRA
The NRA has car/boat/cycle donation program.

See if any of your local high schools have automotive technology classes — they are usually looking for their next project.
Salvation Army - no if ands or buts.
Salvation Army!
Thanks so much to everyone for their thoughtful suggestions and recommendations. FReepers truly are the best!

I’ve given a couple to the local high school’s auto shop. You used to get a nice tax write-off.
NRA’s commercial is very misinforming.
I hear good things about the Clinton Family Foundation.
Here near my house here in MA there is a organization called Helping Hands that deal with donated vehicles for charity.
