Armed men have abducted at least 16 people from La Leche, an upmarket restaurant in a popular Mexican tourist destination. "I am in Puerto Vallarta heading the investigation into the kidnapping (that) occurred this morning," said Eduardo Almaguer, the state prosecutor on his Twitter account on Monday (15 August).
Initial reports, which have not been officially confirmed, stated that a group of armed men targeted around 20 people in La Leche restaurant and took some of them away in several vehicles.
Prosecutors in the western state of Jalisco said that two SUVs with several gunmen arrived at around 1am at the restaurant which is on the city's main boulevard, which runs through the hotel district.
Five vehicles were abandoned at La Leche and it is not yet known if they belonged to the victims or their abductors, according to an AP report.

Mexico is NOT on my travel agenda!
I used to sleep on the beaches in Mexico in the 80s and 90s.
No Mas!
Lived in California for 30 years, and I have never been to Mexico.
You need not wonder why.
Even in the first decade of 2000
As crime goes frequently unpunished, and justice is skewed, expect this more and more worldwide, including the USA. Puerto Vallarta is a place many people I know go to vacation. It is a tourist hub.
This was the destination for “The Love Boat”. My how times have changed.
I hope the executives from Carrier are enjoying Mexico.
I used to hitchhike in Mexico in the 70s.
Been there a few times myself, but not for several years.
The Milk?
Do they demand 400 Million dollars perchance?
But Mexico is coming to you.
The lawlessness which exists in Mexico will seep over our borders in the coming years. Unless we get a real leader.
Smart decision. I would never go to Mexico for vacation or business, not for even a few hours.
Perhaps its some kind of vigilante militia taking out the garbage. What else can people do when confronted by a corrupt government?
I thought La Leche promoted breastfeeding.
