Two people have been killed and more remain missing after a large explosion ripped through an apartment building in a Maryland suburb of Washington.

At least 34 people, including three firefighters, have been injured. Residents are reported to have suffered burns from the blaze and fractures from jumping out of windows.

Montgomery County Police Assistant Chief Russ Hamill announced two people were killed in the blast in Silver Spring during a media conference on Thursday morning.

The explosion was also declared a 'mass casualty incident', and added the building is still in 'extremely dangerous condition'.

Hey, I thought this thread was to be about gas explosions, possible terrorism, etc. Instead we’ve all hijacked it into talk about punctuation, spelling, typewriters, and word processors. Now all somebody needs to do is mention dogs and/or snakes and brig Salamander aboard. Total chaos will ensue.

Oops, looks like I’ve just done it.

Sure, you could but I don’t think anyone would want to. The problem is that the vapors that cause meth lab explosions are highly volatile... they might blow up when you want them too, or they might blow up an hour earlier while you are transporting the device somewhere.

Better to trade a little less *kaboom* for a little more stability with these type of devices.

That “hour earlier” risk is a show stopper for me. ;-)

The heaviest I’ve ever gotten into this was throwing strips of aluminum foil into a 1 liter glass 7-up bottle full of draino and water, filling up baloons and lighting the string as we released them at night.

I agree with you. Used to see a lot of those trailers turned into aluminum rockets ... but they were cooking with gas to hold down carbon emissions!

Yes! We were so appreciative for the assistance of word processing technology when first introduced to the market.

True! I suppose you are right. We could all use a little help from time to time. I just hate being ‘that’ person now that I have an eye condition that creates all kinds of vision issues and then add chemo brain. Well, I’m just a mess. But, what’s a girl to do without FR while recuperating?

You guys can feel free to correct my sentences. I can take it! I lived through my dad’s drilling and tough bosses! I must say, this thread has made me double check my posts before submitting them. Ha. Now, that would be extra embarrassing considering the topic.

We had a yard sale at our church and my Granddaughter found some old carbon paper and I had to explain it to her.

“Now, that would be extra embarrassing considering the topic.”

Mark Twain said that everyone needs an editor. If he needed one, we don’t have to be embarrassed.

Based on having grown up in MD, at that location they’d be wiping out constituents.

That’s toooooo funny. As I remember it was quite shiny after it dried and the error was oh so obvious, particularly when it flaked off the paper. Back in the day a good secretary was worth her weight in gold. Office life sure has changed.

Propane is much more dangerous than natural gas.

I love gas. Instant actual heat, whether for cold or cooking, and instant cooling on the stove when turned off, cooks better too, and doesn’t ruin the cookware by direct contact. Also works despite power outages (except newer pilot lights are often electric for “safety”...never mind if you freeze to death).

We have gas now except the oven for some reason. Wish I had gas in there too.
