I would wager that even if you're someone who bleeds Ferrari red and has bones made from old Chevrolet Camaros, you would consider buying a Prius, if you honestly considered the decision..... Seeing it actually happen in reality is another story. What a glorious car. I don't care if it's the automotive equivalent of eating low-fat plain yogurt. I'm happy to suffer that pain. Besides, it's a comfortable car. The seats aren't benches of wood. You can make the AC blow as hard as you want. It can play classic rock, and play it sort of loud.
The Prius cultivates in the driver the closest thing to a condition of peace I've ever experienced behind the wheel. It also makes you a better citizen: You embrace the speed limit... I don't even think this is demographic destiny. The Prius isn't really an expensive car. You can be a tree-hugging liberal and get one and that makes sense. But I don't know why someone who leans rights and wants to chop down a lot of trees wouldn't want to spend less than $250 a year on gas.
Beyond that, all the Prius haters are completely misguided in their hatred but not because the Prius is a magnificent car deceptively cloaked in sheets of boring. Rather, because the Prius is the first successful car that isn't trying to be a car.

And I thought only the Shadow knew what lurks in the hearts of men?
Sorry to hear that - 2.05 in Milwauke and 2.15 here
“Dont buy Jap cars.”
Agreed, it destroys the domestic crap industry. My 2000 Toyota 4runner Limited is at 275k and showing no signs of slowing down. It has a locker and a 2 inch lift.
It does everything so well I cannot justify getting rid of it.
It does everything Jeeps do except the breakdowns. All windows, rear window, and moonroof open, its about 85% of a convertible. When everyone else scrambles to put their tops up due to rain, I push a button.
Get it detailed, its a luxury SUV for date night.
Fold back seats down, it carries nearly all the cargo that a pickup with a shell will.
Then there’s a 2 inch receiver hitch for a trailer that does all the rest.
Nothing American built compares.
And I wound up in a Prius rental car once want was very surprised that it was a fantastic car. I drove it all weekend and was amazed when the fuel pump clicked off. It was like free driving almost. Comfortable, roomy, and really nothing to say bad about it. Any objections to it are better directed towards the people who like to buy them.
Don't bet real money, because you'd lose that wager, tree hugger. I will never drive, let alone love your commie peoplemobile.
I HAVE to get out for a bicycle ride, but going as fast as I can...
26k out the door it is a lv 2 in Ill.
The cost/ mile is way better because of the lower maintenance factor, no belts to change, brakes are only engaged a very low speeds or panic stops... note all new cabs around here are Pri!
CR found an old pri and compared to new test not bad... you can buy rebuilt batteries...
This replaces a 10 yr old Accord and ins went DOWN?????
“I dont understand the premise of being criticized for buying a Prius.”
Bernie voter?
That is OEM, there is a secondary market, and rebuilds...
OH KNOW!
Put up a paypal account and I may send a micro payment.
And have no power to get out of the way of someone who is not.
Sorry.
I'll stick with gas or diesel.
I think the Prius battery pack is warrantied for 8 yr/100,000 mi. Long-term owners report the battery age is more important than the miles, with a hot environment as significant factor.
A European Prius cab supposedly has the same battery pack at 600,000+ miles at 70k mi/yr.
Very few people who pay a premium price for a vehicle will keep it past 100,000 miles, same as any other premium vehicle.
The cliche Pious owners are “reducing their carbon footprint,” and are willing to pay a premium for it.
“Buy a car that suits your needs and don’t worry about the idiots.”
That’s had me put Chrysler in the running. They at least offer reasonably priced, traditional, full-engine Detroit metal - instead of cut-down I4’s that require premium fuel & forced air. That, and a fuel tank is much less expensive than a constantly decaying lithium ion battery.
I’ve leaned towards traditional Ford/GM for ages, but they’re getting to be too globalised for their own good. Besides, if I wanted an alternative fuel vehicle, it’d look (and be priced) like a more traditional American car.
If someone wants a Prius, fine. Just have the car manufacturers keep their hands off my V6.
A friend that owns a Ferrari, only for the track and maybe sunday ride, maybe, a dodge diesel PU for hauling is m/c and mopar drag car and a VW diesel driver.
LOL!
About $2.75 to $2.85 for mid grade where I buy it. Other stations are more.
“Nothing American built compares.”
Sad but True and I never said otherwise.
You run into it mostly with vegans but there are other groups that do this.
You can almost see their self awarded halo (solar powered and free trade no doubt) switch on every time they bring up the subject.
Which is almost every time they open their mouths.
325?
EPA is like 22-26??
“But for me, a car is something more. It is a public statement of how I feel about myself, the pride I take in my accomplishments, and the presence I want to project to others on the road.”
And you think a car demonstrates this to others? ....Fascinating. A car can be useful, or a car can be fun. But it tells us nothing about the person inside it.... and I mean nothing.
I use GasBuddy to find the cheapest gas in the area, and reward stations that control their prices with my business.
I withhold my business from the expensive ones.
Today the spread from lowest cost to highest cost is $0.75...
