Crews from Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation were able to capture a wild black bear that was seen in Cutler Bay.
Officials were notified to the animal’s location near SW 86th Court and 207th Avenue on Friday after a nearby business said they saw the bear on their surveillance camera from the night before.
The bear was eventually captured after a search of the area. FWC determined that it was a wild bear after checking with nearby facilities that house similar animals to see if they had reported any bears missing.
The animal was taken to Zoo Miami, where FWC has an office, until they can determine what do with it.
Is this unusual in Florida? We’ve got plenty of them up here in the NY/CT area. If they don’t make any trouble, people leave them alone.
Calling it a black bear sounds sort of racist.

Yes, certainly in the southern counties like Palm Beach, Broward, and southward, and certainly not in developed areas.
I've certainly never seen a bear in Broward county in my 50+ years. There are a few foxes hanging on here and there, that I'll see once in a blue moon.

The only white polar bears found south of Hudson’s Bay unfortunately walk on two legs and are hunted by solitary or grouped blacks.

It’s not unusual for bears to be in Florida. North Florida is mostly wilderness.
They have a fair number up in the pan handle near Pensacola/Panama City/Jacksonville. That far south? Not common at all.
We use to have them come knock over our trash cans in the Fort Walton Beach area.
Ok, did not know Florida has a black bear population. Out West, we’ve got bears, but Palm Beach?
Counting down the days until our general black bear season opens here in WA state.
