Is [a black bear down south] unusual in Florida?

Yes, certainly in the southern counties like Palm Beach, Broward, and southward, and certainly not in developed areas.

I've certainly never seen a bear in Broward county in my 50+ years. There are a few foxes hanging on here and there, that I'll see once in a blue moon.

Ok, did not know Florida has a black bear population. Out West, we’ve got bears, but Palm Beach?
