Is this unusual in Florida? We’ve got plenty of them up here in the NY/CT area. If they don’t make any trouble, people leave them alone.

Yes, certainly in the southern counties like Palm Beach, Broward, and southward, and certainly not in developed areas.

I've certainly never seen a bear in Broward county in my 50+ years. There are a few foxes hanging on here and there, that I'll see once in a blue moon.

It’s not unusual for bears to be in Florida. North Florida is mostly wilderness.

They have a fair number up in the pan handle near Pensacola/Panama City/Jacksonville. That far south? Not common at all.
