George Harrison died in 2001. I assume "George Harrison's estate" is his second wife, Olivia Arias Harrison and their son, Dhani Harrison.
Olivia Arias Harrison was born in Mexico City in 1948, and moved with her family to the Los Angeles area in the 1950s. She met George Harrison when she was working at A&M Records in the 1970s.
In spite of what the article says, my own ears tell me it was not the Beatles' version of Here Comes the Sun that played last night, but instead a version by the cover band.
I did a very brief online check, and found that another company is involved in the publishing rights to George Harrison's music.

I don't know they have a legal issue. I hope some freepers with knowledge and experience in this matter will speak up.
Heard a few short minutes of the Stones ‘Can’t Always Get WhT You Want’.
Would they prefer “Here Comes the Darkness”? Good chance. Well, they’ve got that now too, of course, but in a few decades, they’ll get it big time.
The Beatles sold their rights to that song. They should make it their theme song just to piss them off.
I don`t know why any one would want to use a
beatles song for anything.
Maybe there is some wierd ones in the Trump staff.
That wouldn't matter, because the rights are with the author of the song, or whoever they sold it to.
However, if one's song is licences with ASCAP or BMI, and someone pays the royalty, can you really cherrypick who can use it?
Olivia and Dhani need to stuff it. It’s hilarious watching these liberals get all ticked off when conservatives use their music. A little organization called ASCAP essentially requires all musicians to license their songs through them for commercial resale. It’s basically the musician’s union. As long as Trump is paying the licensing fees there’s not a damn thing that Olivia and Dhani can do about it. And George was my favorite Beatle by the way.
Who didn’t see that coming. Big George fan, but f*** them.
As long as Trump pays for the use of the song he can use is without anyone’s permission. I suppose the irony of George having written “Taxman” is lost on George’s “estate”.
The problem is — the song is too “dark”?
I wonder if the estate actually owns the copyright still.
You know, I always liked that song. And I wonder if Donald chose it specifically for Ivanka. Because the lady is sunshine.
It wasn’t The Beatles, that’s for sure - it G.E. Smith’s house band that played it, and they only played the intro and first verse before cutting it off so Ivanka’s speech could begin.
Bunch of liberal English twits. Who cares?
George Harrison will moan and groan about Trump using his song, but he won’t refuse the royalty fee for doing so.
Tough nuts.
Why Queen & George Harrisons Estate Probably Cant Sue Over Having Their Songs Played At RNC
I am WAAAAAAAY past the point of giving a diseased rat’s ass about whether my words or deeds, or those of others who think along the same lines as me, offend liberals and Leftists. Their EXISTENCE offends me - their lies, their hatred for all that is good and decent, their disparaging of this nation, etc., etc. Frankly, if something is done or said that does NOT offend the special snowflakes, I’ve got to wonder what I’ve done wrong.
In this life you are known and judged by not merely your friends and the company you keep, but also by who considers themselves your enemy. Trump has ALL of the right enemies - he’s my kind of guy, and he’s had my vote locked up for a long time.
Harrison’s wrinkled, old, Leftist hag of a very rich widow doesn’t like Trump using his song? Too f’ing bad!
Well, maybe they’ll play “Taxman” at the DNC convention...
