The Beatles beloved Abbey Road song Here Comes the Sun was played at the 2016 Republican National Convention Thursday as Ivanka Trump took the stage, and late Thursday night, George Harrisons estate slammed Republican nominee Donald Trump for using the song, calling the act offensive and against the wishes of the George Harrison estate. (Harrison wrote the track.)
The unauthorized use of #HereComestheSun at the #RNCinCLE is offensive & against the wishes of the George Harrison estate, Harrisons estates official Twitter account posted.
The account then followed up and joked that maybe another one of Harrisons songs would have better suited the Republican National Convention: If it had been Beware of Darkness, then we MAY have approved it! #TrumpYourself. (Beware of Darkness appears on Harrisons solo album All Things Must Pass.)

It's easier to ask for forgiveness than permission. Once it's played on live TV, it doesn't really matter. Pay a small fine and be done. It's not a criminal offense. Besides, the Trump campaign can say they meant to get permission, but were just careless.
Mick Jagger is dancing on his grave!
Shut up and sing.
Public domain!!!!
Nothing there legally. This is just a group of lefties speaking out for one purpose, so their lefty friends know they didn't "sell out". Now they can go back and crawl into their safe space.
Generally, no it isn't.
Great, now even dead people are hating on him.
Pffft!
‘The complaint was issued in the form of a tweet.’
LOL The sentence speaks for itself.
“””””The beatles songs sucked. End of story.”””””
I’m 60 years old. I always thought the beatles sang like some little girls. couldn’t stand them. I have been constantly bombarded with weekend “ Beatles Fests” on the radio and I believe it offends me. I will go to my safe place and recover but the Beatles WILL ALWAYS SUCK!!!!!!!!!!
As I understand, if you intend to play a song in front of 25,000 people, you need to own the rights. Back in 2015 Neil Young publicly complained about Trump about using his song "Keep on Rockin in the Free World." Trumps campaign politely said: "hey millionaire rock-star hypocrite, you sold them, and we have the right to use them."
Would they prefer “Here Comes the Darkness”? Good chance. Well, they’ve got that now too, of course, but in a few decades, they’ll get it big time.
I've read something that appeared official on FR already addressing this complaint yesterday. There is no legal issue here.
"Here Comes The Sun" was written over 95 years ago? My how time flies.
Heard a few short minutes of the Stones ‘Can’t Always Get WhT You Want’.
Hah, wait until you see all the dead people that come out to vote for Hillary.
Didn’t Michael Jackson purchase a lot of their music?
So true. lol.
Would they prefer “Here Comes the Darkness”? Good chance. Well, they’ve got that now too, of course, but in a few decades, they’ll get it big time.
