The Cessna 208B, operated by Joy Air General Air, was carrying two crew members and eight invited guests, mostly government workers and local journalists, according to local media.

The seaplane took off from Jinshan in suburban Shanghai and was bound for the Zhoushan islands, about 75 kilometers (47 miles) to the south.
The route is designed for tourists and sightseers who want to escape to the islands from sprawling Shanghai. Local journalists were invited to tour the seaplane before its takeoff, and some of them boarded the aircraft for the subsequent flight along with local officials. Wednesday's flight appeared to have been a media tour to help promote the airline's new coastal service.

Here's the Fuddy crash plane just before it got its final paint job. (I sure hope this posting works for others and not just me!) Note: this version without the pontoons is good for just one water landing!

“I think weight and balance might have been an issue. 10 souls on floats, I thought the rear seats were jump seats not rated for adults, then add in the floats.”
The 208B is certified for 13 people and a payload of over 7000 pounds.
I recall the Navy using the term “seaplane” for aircraft on floats and the term “flying boat” for those aircraft with a floating fuselage.
Is that on floats?
My first thoughts too.
A neighbor of mine(Navy Vet) flew one, taking wounded out of the Okinawa battle zone.
Cessnas arent built in China. I think theyre made in Kansas.
...
Cessna did build a factory in China for this particular aircraft a few years ago.
Me too. I tried to never miss it!
Great research, thanks.
If you remember Sky King, were both older than dirt. 8^)

I got dirt beat by a coupla years, heh. But, yeah, Saturday mornings in front of the TV, it was “from out of the blue...”. Of course, “Penny” caught a young lad’s eye, too.
Somesing Went Wong.
Judging by the second photo, that bridge seemed to have gotten in the way of his landing.
The B is a stretch version of the 208, extending capacity from 10 to 13.
One of the many reasons I moved to the west when I turned 21. Great show!

It was great back then to watch Old West themed shows set in a contemporary setting. Roy Rogers driving Nellybelle. Caught a lot of good shows when they were in circulation years after their regular run. Pluck your magic twanger, Froggy!
The only seaplane I’ve ever been on was in early July, of 1981, when my brother, who was a surveyor based in Juneau, Alaska, generously flew me up there for a world-class fishing trip with my Dad and two friends. We were flying to Hasselborg lake, on Admiralty island, in the Tongass National Forest, to fish for Dolly Varden, Rainbow, and Cutthroat Trout, out of a five dollar a day Forest Service cabin, that was equipped very sparsely. We took a radial-engined Twin Beech 18 on floats with the five of us, the pilot, all of our fishing gear and supplies, our necessary firearms, two outboard boat engines, cases of Rainier Beer, and five cases of Stroh’s Beer from Detroit that I lugged through Detroit Metro Airport in a duffel bag. And, on the way to Seattle, Red Skelton was a short-hop passenger to Milwaukee. I’m 6’3”, and when Red saw me coming up the aisle in Milwaukee, he said:”Look at this guy, he’s big enough to be his own state.”
“Uncle Sky, Uncle Sky! *screams*”
Wasn’t her name Penny or something?
And she was always in trouble?
” It’s a float plane, not a seaplane. A seaplane puts its fuselage in the water.”
Apparently this one did, too.
