This was the first year our peach trees set fruit. Lousy squirrels picked almost all of them and carried them all over the place.

They are now pushing up daisies. Peaches are very hard to grow here, because a spring frost usually kills them. It was very disappointing to have a nice crop going, and then have the critters do them in, but that’s the way it goes.

Last year we had a HUGE crop on our tree. The birds and squirrels got lots and I pinched about 50% (the tree was covered like crazy) yet I was still able to manage to harvest about a dozen! One dozen peaches out of hundreds of baby peaches. :). I was OK with that - I made jam with them, which is what I want them for. I thought the jam was too thick, but it actually spreads nicely and is bright in flavor. Five little jars of the most hard fought for jam in the history of peach jam!

Maybe our tree will be OK next year - I think our temps didn’t get low enough, often enough this winter. As our tree is very near the house it is in a micro climate - and that bit us in the butt this year.

I put in a couple peach trees several years ago. Picked the proper varieties for my area (supposedly) and cross pollination. Pruned them to create an open bowl shape so the sun can get to everything. Even spent about a year with a come-along to straighten up the big one when it decided to lean.

Never had a blossom, and last fall almost all of the branches on both died off and the only growth I have this year is vertical and right up the center.

At least I can use the wood in my smoker.

BTW, when I was looking at peach trees the other day in the store, the tags mentioned you could leave them in the pot.
