New Dwarf Planet Discovered Far Beyond Pluto's Orbit

Pluto isn't quite as lonely as scientists had thought.

Astronomers have discovered another dwarf planet in the Kuiper Belt, the ring of icy objects beyond Neptune. But this newfound world, dubbed 2015 RR245, is much more distant than Pluto, orbiting the sun once every 700 Earth years, scientists said. (Pluto completes one lap around the sun every 248 Earth years.)

"The icy worlds beyond Neptune trace how the giant planets formed and then moved out from the sun," discovery team member Michele Bannister, of the University of Victoria in British Columbia, said in a statement. "They let us piece together the history of our solar system."

...

The exact size of 2015 RR245 is not yet known, but the researchers think it's about 435 miles (700 kilometers) wide. Pluto is the largest resident of the Kuiper Belt, with a diameter of 1,474 miles (2,371 km).

The research team first spotted 2015 RR245 in February of this year, while poring over images that the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope in Hawaii took in September 2015 as part of the ongoing Outer Solar System Origins Survey (OSSOS).

"There it was on the screen — this dot of light moving so slowly that it had to be at least twice as far as Neptune from the sun," Bannister said.

Yeah.
“DNS server isn’t responding”
Which is a lie as I’m posting from a mobile through said dns server.

Soooooooo, fun.

I’m pretty close to going in to read dead tree books, too.

I’ve written to my grandson, and at the moment, I’m watching the Patriots beat the Dolphins, and will soon head for netherworld.

Hope you have a good night. We’re going to have supper here at some point, if we don’t lose interest, and then either watch “Richard III” or go to bed, depending on Events.

No you're not.

On the wired network the DNS server (for all client machines) is the Host machine which seems to be having a conniption. On the wireless router the DNS server is OpenDNS, which is responding normally..

I had a long discussion with the SysAdmin about the issue. We both are blaming Check Point (who bought Zone Labs in 2003) for hic-coughs in the Zone Alarm firewall.

Things seem to have stabilized now so all the disgruntled clients can carry on with their previously scheduled activities..

The SysAdmin says he's out of chocolate..

RE: Your washing machine issues..

Maybe you need a new business model.. ;-) (Although I think the 5 cent fee should be adjusted for inflation and other costs, e.g. the new machine..)

Thanks, NoC! That is such an awesomely clever idea. If I had more than one person to wash clothes for, and a large area to wash clothes in, this is what I would want to look at on those days that I absolutely, positively had to wash clothes.

That’s pretty. Those people have more space than I do, though. Also, it must be on the ground floor or in the basement, or the vibration would knock all that décor off.

The washing is done and all that’s left is to hang the wetness to become dryness overnight. Since my trip, my back has been going into spasms a lot, and I don’t know why. What I do know is that it is, in the words of my mother, “a darned nuisance!”

Since I didn’t sleep well last night (I don’t know why) it would seem today is going to be one that is beset with The Slows. Again.
