Pluto isn't quite as lonely as scientists had thought.
Astronomers have discovered another dwarf planet in the Kuiper Belt, the ring of icy objects beyond Neptune. But this newfound world, dubbed 2015 RR245, is much more distant than Pluto, orbiting the sun once every 700 Earth years, scientists said. (Pluto completes one lap around the sun every 248 Earth years.)
"The icy worlds beyond Neptune trace how the giant planets formed and then moved out from the sun," discovery team member Michele Bannister, of the University of Victoria in British Columbia, said in a statement. "They let us piece together the history of our solar system."

The exact size of 2015 RR245 is not yet known, but the researchers think it's about 435 miles (700 kilometers) wide. Pluto is the largest resident of the Kuiper Belt, with a diameter of 1,474 miles (2,371 km).
The research team first spotted 2015 RR245 in February of this year, while poring over images that the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope in Hawaii took in September 2015 as part of the ongoing Outer Solar System Origins Survey (OSSOS).
"There it was on the screen this dot of light moving so slowly that it had to be at least twice as far as Neptune from the sun," Bannister said.

My previous washer was a Whirlpool, and it did quite well, given the abuse we put on it. However, I read some reviews before shopping, and the Maytag was well-regarded.
After cleaning the laundry room and the sunroom (much to Shannon’s disgust), we found the refrigerator was iced up, and the whole unit needs to be completely thawed (at least 24 hours at our current 68 degrees indoors). Fortunately, it’s quite cold outside for all the perishables, and we won’t attract bears.
Since I last posted, I have made an entry in my journal about my trip to Arkansas, and I’m sure I’ve left things out.
At any rate, I’m heading for bed. With any luck at all, I’ll be able to sleep in until 0400. That would be amazing! And so, Undeaders, have a safe and happy New Year’s Eve, and I’ll see you in a new year! <3
Hope you have a good night!
Well, better’n an hour ‘til we blow 2016 a “so long forever” kiss, and I’m wishing you all a “Happy New Year” over a nice glass of Small Batch Limited Release Apothic Inferno; a sumptuous blended red aged 60 days in whiskey barrels for a note of maple and spice.
HAPPY 2017 ALL YE UNDEAD!!
I rather doubt we'd both fit...
We gave up on the old year about 9:30. It’s raining this morning, which made going outside to get the half-and-half for my coffee annoying. The refrigerator is still thawing.
Happy New Year!
Happy New Year! I hope you, family, friends, and animals are all well!
Happy New Year, Ganag!
I was sleeping soundly when long about 8:15, someone began setting off fireworks in the ‘hood. Nothing for 30 minutes and I was just dropping off to sleep when it happened again. And kept happening until the Big Shindig on the Strip, which I could hear because the wind was right and there was no rain, and a smaller local one, which I could also hear because it was less than two blocks away.
Since this is the start of my three days to open the clubhouse, I had to be up by 4:00 to warm the bathroom and take a shower. So I’m doing all this on about four hours of sleep.
The New Year kitteh has the right idea about today, for sure.
Lest I forget, I was just dropping off to sleep again when my phone signaled a text message. I didn’t want to answer it, but did, expecting the worst. Almost. Sussette, wished me a Happy New Year. She has been sending me texts left and right since I had to find another way to the airport. Anyway, I didn’t answer her.
Good morning. Just the usual dishes and laundry and cats here.
The shower is done, and all I can do is wait for the right time (0530) to go open the clubhouse, then I will go to Wally’s to get some little “dinner rolls” (pre-baked) for sandwiches. That way, I don’t get quite so many carbs. My little way of cheating the fat demons. Maybe I’ll get some peanut butter. I haven’t had any of that for a long time.
It’s 42 degrees and 85% on my patio, so I think before I do anything else, I’m going to have a breathing treatment. The air is too moist for me to breathe comfortably.
Oh, yes...I had to throw out the keyboard tray to this desk yesterday. It kept falling off one of the runners, so I just pitched it. If I could afford it, I’d get the Big Desk! But I’ll just have to wait for the move. Then this one will find a new home with someone who doesn’t need as much space as I do.
DP plans to go to church at 9:00. Some boys will probably be ready. I will insist he take Frank, so I won’t have him clinging while I’m singing at 1:00. Later, the Offspring will thoroughly clean out the refrigerator and freezer, which we can turn back on tomorrow morning. The key is to leave off long enough to completely thaw.
Better to get a new desk after you move.
Since there’s not much chance of schoolwork’s being done in the next week, I think we’ll completely turn out the schoolroom. That hasn’t been done in six months or more. Maybe we’ll even paint, if the weather is nice enough to open the windows. Then it will be freshly painted when the stars align to get Ramon our Tile Layer to replace the floor.
I don’t see any reports of mass violence in Times Square, so I guess your garbage-truck blockage worked. Congrats!
I suppose we’ll move the UT today, but one doesn’t want to disturb Darks’ rest ...
So true!
