Pluto isn't quite as lonely as scientists had thought.
Astronomers have discovered another dwarf planet in the Kuiper Belt, the ring of icy objects beyond Neptune. But this newfound world, dubbed 2015 RR245, is much more distant than Pluto, orbiting the sun once every 700 Earth years, scientists said. (Pluto completes one lap around the sun every 248 Earth years.)
"The icy worlds beyond Neptune trace how the giant planets formed and then moved out from the sun," discovery team member Michele Bannister, of the University of Victoria in British Columbia, said in a statement. "They let us piece together the history of our solar system."
...
The exact size of 2015 RR245 is not yet known, but the researchers think it's about 435 miles (700 kilometers) wide. Pluto is the largest resident of the Kuiper Belt, with a diameter of 1,474 miles (2,371 km).
The research team first spotted 2015 RR245 in February of this year, while poring over images that the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope in Hawaii took in September 2015 as part of the ongoing Outer Solar System Origins Survey (OSSOS).
"There it was on the screen this dot of light moving so slowly that it had to be at least twice as far as Neptune from the sun," Bannister said.

You’re welcome. Happy Monday!
Happy Monday to you and yours, too! Prayers up for your laundry efficacy. Syl....
The washer errored-out this time. I’m trying to make it last another week or so, for the price of a replacement to drop post-Christmas!
Sounds like a plan!
A good opportunity to clean the laundry room, too.
My son has been busy this morning, telling me how much he’s looking forward to the trip.
I gave him a list of things, and told him that anything I slept on or under had to be washable because of my night sweats. He didn’t seem to understand that, but ohwell.
I’ve been up over three hours this morning, so far. The night shirts are hanging to dry, and the sheets and towels have been put away. I still have to make the bed, but I will get to that when the pain pills go to work.
It’s 30 degrees on my patio and the wind is from the north at 6 mph, so that makes the wind chill a toasty 25. My son says it’s cold in AR — currently 20 degrees...
I hope your washer lasts until next week, too! All the washers were working this morning when I was in the laundry room, but one of them was awfully noisy on the final spin. I can’t image what people put in them to make them do that so soon after repair.
Zeke met me at the laundry room and was talking about Chuck. LuDean is all gloom and doom and Charlie is quite optimistic, and the information I got from Zeke makes me think he and Charlie are the ones who are right. When I saw Chuck, he looked MUCH better than when I saw him, which was when the ambulance was taking him away.
Zeke said Chuck can feel a little in his left arm and leg, and his left eye has more movement. I’m so glad! Chuck often reminds me of Igor, but that’s not his fault.
Anyway, I will go make the bed soon.
Oh. And this must be a guy thing: Zeke likes the front-loading machine and stuffed that thing full! He had enough for two loads, but put it all into one. It’s none of my business, but I know his clothes will be dingy before too many more washings. (Sorry guys.)
Bill and Tom like to stuff the washer full, too. And they’re not even paying by the load!
Maybe if you tell yourself that you’re going to have a very good time and that you’re going to like his wife very much, it will happen. Attitude is an important factor!
I’ve met his wife. The last time I was there, she was obnoxious and kept taking my son into a different direction than me and James at the mall. And got between us for pictures.
She tried to do the same thing when they came here on their way to St George to visit her folks because her “dad is getting older, you know.” That time, it was for my two children and me and the only time she was in the picture was on the other side of my son, with me, then my daughter and her husband.
Her attitude needs to be adjusted to accept her place in my life with my son. She is secondary to him and always will be. As is my son-in-law to my daughter. So maybe it’s a good thing she will be alone with me, so I can tell her what the real pecking order is.
Outside of that, I plan to enjoy my visit, but I really wish it was over with, so I can analyze it in retrospect.
The good news is, I’m all packed except for my Nook, the phone and the charging cords. Hooray for Space Bags! Woo-hoo! I was able to pack my nebulizer, too, so that’s good. I don’t really want to carry it.
Now, I’m tired, and I wish a had some Pink Drink so I could go in and take a nap. Maybe I can sleep in tomorrow. Maybe.
I’ve decided not to have Greg drive me, as he has been pretty exhausted by his dialysis, lately. So I asked Zeke to take me this morning. I’ll still have to give him gas money, but at least he’s alert. I could rely on Greg’s years of CDL training, but he wasn’t ill when he drove for Greyhound.
Anyway, my son is all excited by my visit, so I’ll make the best of it.
As a manager I can say it’s even worse.
As you know, knowledge = power
But power = work / time
but time = money
so knowledge = work / money
Meaning there is an inverse relationship between what you make and what you know.
I thought you could fill them full, although you’re not supposed to stuff them.
What a topsy-turvy post number THAT was.
Congratulations on the packing! We’ve been to the gym, and now I’m waiting for my turn in the shower.
I’ve had some small apartments here in NYC with some small showers, but none so small that getting to turn in one was a special treat.
Some close, but none quite that small.
We’re going to spend Christmas (aka “The Holidays”) with the in-laws.
The weather beeber says it’s 20 up there right now.
I’m dreaming of a stiff and sore Christmas.
Where is ‘up there’?
‘Cause up here it’s 24..
Betwixt Albany and Lake George.
I’m still apprehensive about my packing and the list I’ve been crossing off, and I will probably check it at least twice more before I head for the airport. This is not fun.
My brain is threatening to fail me, so I’m heading into the bedroom and try to warm up and relax.
I’ll see all y’all in the morning!
