Pluto isn't quite as lonely as scientists had thought.
Astronomers have discovered another dwarf planet in the Kuiper Belt, the ring of icy objects beyond Neptune. But this newfound world, dubbed 2015 RR245, is much more distant than Pluto, orbiting the sun once every 700 Earth years, scientists said. (Pluto completes one lap around the sun every 248 Earth years.)
"The icy worlds beyond Neptune trace how the giant planets formed and then moved out from the sun," discovery team member Michele Bannister, of the University of Victoria in British Columbia, said in a statement. "They let us piece together the history of our solar system."
...
The exact size of 2015 RR245 is not yet known, but the researchers think it's about 435 miles (700 kilometers) wide. Pluto is the largest resident of the Kuiper Belt, with a diameter of 1,474 miles (2,371 km).
The research team first spotted 2015 RR245 in February of this year, while poring over images that the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope in Hawaii took in September 2015 as part of the ongoing Outer Solar System Origins Survey (OSSOS).
"There it was on the screen this dot of light moving so slowly that it had to be at least twice as far as Neptune from the sun," Bannister said.

Now I’m listening to “The Mephisto Waltz.” Tom and Elen turned it off the last time and made me listen to something truly dreadful.
This morning is the 3rd morning since Friday the dog got sociable at about 3:30 am and I was unable to fall back asleep.
Two of the 3 I had to get up and put her out.
She’s getting older. I guess her bladder’s getting weaker.
I happen to like the Mephisto Waltz. I’m back from a grueling morning. I will sit with the peeps for a bit, then come in.
Amazingly enough, my parking spot was waiting for me, just as I had left it!
You'd think it could have swept up and taken out the trash.
That news about the bubble wrap is devastating.
How will the tension sheet be invented now? (Red Dwarf)
Not to worry! I told him I would bring my tablet, which has a bubble wrap game on it, complete with sound. Yep! Like that! ;o]
Actually, I thought Oscar the Grouch would have snapped it up the second he realized I wasn’t coming back for a while.
A couple of days ago, (yesterday, maybe?) I came home from Walmart and he was just getting ready to leave, having been parked on my right. I shut my headlights off so he wouldn’t have to deal with the glare while he was getting ready to leave. After he left, I backed into my spot.
So maybe he was just returning the favor. I’m sure he’s a nice guy when you get to know him, but he doesn’t seem to trust people. Ohwell...
Afternoon. I went to Walmart then had a nap, since Kathleen was. Now I’m making grilled pizza sandwiches for the kids, and then we’ll go to the gym.
I ran out of steam. Or gasoline. Whichever it is I run on these days. Lablady says it takes about 24 hours for the results of a CBC to be given to the doctor. She used to work in the same lab I went to this morning, so she would know.
I told her the last time I had to have two units of blood, and she called me an “overachiever.” I’d be happy if I didn’t have to have any!
I’ve been trying to find printable calendar pages so I can get my appointments penciled in, but the ones I want are not supported by Win10. So I’ll go back to OpenOffice and see if they have the templates without directing me to the ends of the Interwebs.
I bought my 2017 desk-size calendar several months ago. Three months are up on the wall already.
Sally put up lights outside. She also put bows on the bats and relocated them to a rose bush.
I try not to buy calendars, because I seldom find any that are functional for my purposes. All the ones I wanted were “not supported by Win10,” and all that did was frustrate me no end.
Since I was tired from this morning’s activities, I just couldn’t seem to focus on trying to navigate around the stuff they put in my way. But I did manage to print out January, but it’s not the one I wanted. It uses too much ink.
I need to mail out some Christmas cards, but I only have 10 stamps. I hope that’s enough, because I won’t get any more until payday.
Wow. I’m sounding really weird. I think I need to do one last check on the usual suspect sites and then head for bed. This is strange. :o0
Hope you have a good night! I’m going to get my exercise clothes on, and then we go.
As tired and achy as I am, I suspect I will sleep. I’m going to have another breathing treatment before I settle in, and with luck, I’ll be bright-eyed and bushy-tailed in the morning.
You have a good night, as well, and I’ll see you in the morning. And I’m off to see the blanket show!
Hugs to everyone
Marvy.
Yes. And they are saying we’re in for gusts t0 50mph or above and winds 35-40 sustained. And a low tonight-Friday morn of 9 degrees.
On another note, now that I got my semiannual shearing my head is noticing just how drafty the ol’ farmhouse is..
Hi!
Back atcha, you! ;o]
