Pluto isn't quite as lonely as scientists had thought.
Astronomers have discovered another dwarf planet in the Kuiper Belt, the ring of icy objects beyond Neptune. But this newfound world, dubbed 2015 RR245, is much more distant than Pluto, orbiting the sun once every 700 Earth years, scientists said. (Pluto completes one lap around the sun every 248 Earth years.)
"The icy worlds beyond Neptune trace how the giant planets formed and then moved out from the sun," discovery team member Michele Bannister, of the University of Victoria in British Columbia, said in a statement. "They let us piece together the history of our solar system."
...
The exact size of 2015 RR245 is not yet known, but the researchers think it's about 435 miles (700 kilometers) wide. Pluto is the largest resident of the Kuiper Belt, with a diameter of 1,474 miles (2,371 km).
The research team first spotted 2015 RR245 in February of this year, while poring over images that the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope in Hawaii took in September 2015 as part of the ongoing Outer Solar System Origins Survey (OSSOS).
"There it was on the screen this dot of light moving so slowly that it had to be at least twice as far as Neptune from the sun," Bannister said.

All older ladies have the occasional meltdown. It’s biology!
I hope you feel better tomorrow!
Happy Thanksgiving FRiends!
Good morning, fanfan! A delayed Happy Thanksgiving!
Happy Thanksgiving (US) to you! I forget when your Thanksgiving is... Do you still do your turkey in the Egg?
I was going to sleep in today, but that was not to be. So thank you for the kitteh that awaited me, and I am off to the shower.
(Dat kitteh is so squee, I heart it!)
This kitten has no tail, according to the poster.
My goodness! I wonder if it’s a runt or if the tail was removed in some accident. Or maybe it’s hereditary.
I don’t recall if I mentioned this but I had a meeting with Zeke yesterday. He has been summarily dismissed. Luckily, he has not been banned from public housing and will not have to pay any fines, so I think he is fortunate.
He likes doing what he does in communities, and is good at what he accomplishes for the residents. He just has to learn that there is a right way and a wrong way. But he’s like a Chihuahua: He don’t know from size, so he has no fears about facing down a bigger “enemy.”
The kitten was born without a tail. I’m glad nothing worse will befall Zeke!
Zeke is very helpful to the residents, here, and is quite personable, but he has an Irish temper, and if he doesn’t like someone, they will know, in no uncertain terms.

The ramada is always in shade and I just got too cold to sit.
Dang. I have to re-boot this thing. *GAH*
And happy-day-late-American-Thanksgiving greetings to you!
(Thanksgiving up there is in October, yes?)
I’m going to go lie down in a warm bed. My lower back got chilled when I was out with Charlie, and I need to stop the ache.
I’ll all y’all tomorrow.
Hope you have a good night. My back is bothering me, too: maybe I did too much at the gym.
Ah, a hypnomouse. Heard of them!
Speaking of things I’ve heard, it is said that Fidel Castro is finally dead.
That looks like a couple of bright-eyed, not so bushy-tailed morning kittehs.
Good morning, all. I just read my last post and I was worse off than I thought — I left out “see.”
I’ll be going to Walmart soon. I have to get some Tylenol. I normally don’t take it (it destroyed my liver) but I’m having that procedure on Tuesday, and should have been using Tylenol since Tuesday this week, but I didn’t have any. So I hope even three days will help. (If the morphine worked for everything, I would have used it. But it keeps me awake.)
*tagline*
I saw that about Fidel Castro on the news feed when I went to check the weather. Is his brother as strict a communist as Fidel was? I’ve hardly heard a thing about him.
Yes, Raul Castro is the same old dictator, Parte Dos, but he’s older than rocks, too.
I thought he would die before Fidel, but no such luck. (Shame on me.)
I have a meeting with Zeke in a few minutes. I have no idea why.
