New Dwarf Planet Discovered Far Beyond Pluto's Orbit

Pluto isn't quite as lonely as scientists had thought.

Astronomers have discovered another dwarf planet in the Kuiper Belt, the ring of icy objects beyond Neptune. But this newfound world, dubbed 2015 RR245, is much more distant than Pluto, orbiting the sun once every 700 Earth years, scientists said. (Pluto completes one lap around the sun every 248 Earth years.)

"The icy worlds beyond Neptune trace how the giant planets formed and then moved out from the sun," discovery team member Michele Bannister, of the University of Victoria in British Columbia, said in a statement. "They let us piece together the history of our solar system."

...

The exact size of 2015 RR245 is not yet known, but the researchers think it's about 435 miles (700 kilometers) wide. Pluto is the largest resident of the Kuiper Belt, with a diameter of 1,474 miles (2,371 km).

The research team first spotted 2015 RR245 in February of this year, while poring over images that the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope in Hawaii took in September 2015 as part of the ongoing Outer Solar System Origins Survey (OSSOS).

"There it was on the screen — this dot of light moving so slowly that it had to be at least twice as far as Neptune from the sun," Bannister said.

So is puffing a handful of itching powder.

I could never understand why they didn’t try that in “Hollow Man.”

Or pepper. Elizabeth Shue could say, “I sure hope there are no invisible people around me.” Then puff a handful of pepper into the air. If the air sneezed, after she said, “Bless you” she could run.

They never think of the obvious solutions when they make those movies.

Ohnooo....

I forgot to get a card for my grandson, and I need to mail his birthday/Christmas present by Monday. He is so pumped up about what he’s doing, the least I can do is give him a New Favorite Tie and Tie Tack, plus a snowman tie for Christmas that I got at the Dollar Store.

A few minutes ago, I came in from being outside; I just couldn’t stay out with the peeps for too long. After the mail came, I came back inside, and when I did that, the peeps all took the hint and went home. The wind came up.

Well, I had to complain to our building staff that the tree and wreath were already up and lit. And I heard SO many ads for black Friday prices that you can already get over the last two days that I’m ready to pust if I see or hear anything more about Chirstmas (don’t tell the Atheists, that’s what we’re really celebrating) for the next 3 weeks.

On the other hand, it is a season that brings out the best in people. Just this morning I saw a mugger say “Season’s Greetings” after taking a man’s wallet and he responded with, “Happy Holidays.” So I guess it is beginning to look a lot like Christmas.

Back from the gym, took a shower. Now I’m heating some pumpkin soup. It’s beginning to feel rather like Thanksgiving, although not much.

I’ll need to clean a bunch of things again or the Advent Kitteh won’t come next Sunday.

Every time you mention pumpkin soup, it sounds better to me! Somehow, pumpkin yogurt just doesn’t cut it.

Wow. The Advent Kitteh is that close? Ohmy.

And did I tell you I got a Wolferman’s catalog this week? Complete with crumpets and lemon curd. I’ve had it long enough now that the pages are stuck together with slobber.

The clinic just called to tell me my prescription for morphine is ready for pickup, so I will have to go on Tuesday to get it. I think I have plenty of gas, as I haven’t driven much this month.

Next Tuesday, (29th) is my epidural, so I will have to get the prescription this coming week.

If I never hear of Pumpkin Spice (insert food or drink here) again it will be too soon.

The Pumpking Spice New York Style Pizza was what did me in.

I’m not sure I want to even try and imagine pumpkin spice pizza. That’s so wrong on so many levels...

Be vewwy, vewwy careful, young miss. One doesn’t mess with the marketing trend.

Well, since I don’t have a lot of influence on the markets, I won’t worry about it! Some of the marketing trends were designed with idiots in mind, anyway.

I mean, Gucci’s new line of “men’s” clothing should be enough to scare any man straight!

The Mrketing Trend is not designed, it is the designer. Cross it at your own risk.

The soup doesn’t have spice, just pumpkin and other vegetables and barley. I think the barley is disturbing my digestion. Anyway the soup is all gone now.

Elen is listening to the “Rent” cast recording. Meh.
