Pluto isn't quite as lonely as scientists had thought.
Astronomers have discovered another dwarf planet in the Kuiper Belt, the ring of icy objects beyond Neptune. But this newfound world, dubbed 2015 RR245, is much more distant than Pluto, orbiting the sun once every 700 Earth years, scientists said. (Pluto completes one lap around the sun every 248 Earth years.)
"The icy worlds beyond Neptune trace how the giant planets formed and then moved out from the sun," discovery team member Michele Bannister, of the University of Victoria in British Columbia, said in a statement. "They let us piece together the history of our solar system."
...
The exact size of 2015 RR245 is not yet known, but the researchers think it's about 435 miles (700 kilometers) wide. Pluto is the largest resident of the Kuiper Belt, with a diameter of 1,474 miles (2,371 km).
The research team first spotted 2015 RR245 in February of this year, while poring over images that the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope in Hawaii took in September 2015 as part of the ongoing Outer Solar System Origins Survey (OSSOS).
"There it was on the screen this dot of light moving so slowly that it had to be at least twice as far as Neptune from the sun," Bannister said.

You poor dear!! *gasp* No full set of crayons? “Oh, how sad to die when one is so young and cute.” (Pogo Possum)
I’ve always had crayons and coloring books. Now, of course, I have the colored pencils and get the free coloring pages from Dover. I have even been laughed at for it, but I like it!
Appropos of nothing, I cleaned out a file cabinet and took the thing outside to be place on freecycle in a day or two. It has a long file drawer and I don’t like it. The reasons are numerous. At any rate, the contents are now in a banker’s box on the shelf in the coat closet.
There is another one up there, but it is only about a third full. I will try to get some things put back into the one I took out of the closet, looking for something, as I need to get the mess out of my living room. Finally.
While I was giving in to this burst of energy a few days ago, I found a throw panel (fabric store find, meant to have the edges finished in some way) and decided I’d go ahead and finish the edges in some way!
In the few breaks I’ve taken today, I have started to cut 1” wide “fringe” that I will knot, and then I’ll use it on the recliner. The colors are good for the chair.
So that’s been my day. And as a sweet little surprise, I found a leather bookmark with 2” of fringe on the bottom. It’s an almost new souvenir from Cincinnati, so I will keep it. There is a mark on the back like a price tag, and I would love to have seen the actual cost of it.
I like to color with pencils, too.
Congrats on the finds! I’m going to have some wine and pretzels and think about all the things I should do for church.
Now THAT sounds like an excellent idea! I haven’t gotten a Cardbordeau wine for a long time. I feel I deserve some for the things I’ve done this week, but I suspect it will be a while before I can do that. And pretzels, too.
My laptop is going wonky again, so I’m going to go crawl in between some warm flannel sheets and call this a day well spent.
I see... :)
Have you ever tried Ketchup on a corn cob? Just a light smear... *Dives behind sandbag*
*tsk-tsk*
How did your mother ever survive your childhood? ;o]
Later, you!
There is a small 24 colour (Color, Crayola are American) starter pack.
It gives a fine sample of the flavours available.
Good in high stress situations as it is about the size of a packet of smokes, just infinity tastier.
Artists tend to go for the full set, then waste them vandalising sheets of white paper.
:)
LOLOL,
Under sufferance, I think. :)
You must be joking.
No, Genuine.
Just a light smear.
It is devine.
I suppose it could be. I put corn in my Alarming Election Chili.
Sounds good !
Does Bovril exist o’er yonder?
I haven’t seen it in Walmart, but we can get Vegemite.
Totally different animal....
Must go, getting late.
This has been an excruciatingly busy week, let’s just hope tomorrow is a bit more sensible. G’Night.
Good sleep!
You live in DC???
Joan Rivers used to say she hated housework. “I mean, you make the bed, you vacuum the floors, 6 months later you just have to do it again.”
What doesn’t kill you tried to.
Good point.
