Pluto isn't quite as lonely as scientists had thought.
Astronomers have discovered another dwarf planet in the Kuiper Belt, the ring of icy objects beyond Neptune. But this newfound world, dubbed 2015 RR245, is much more distant than Pluto, orbiting the sun once every 700 Earth years, scientists said. (Pluto completes one lap around the sun every 248 Earth years.)
"The icy worlds beyond Neptune trace how the giant planets formed and then moved out from the sun," discovery team member Michele Bannister, of the University of Victoria in British Columbia, said in a statement. "They let us piece together the history of our solar system."
...
The exact size of 2015 RR245 is not yet known, but the researchers think it's about 435 miles (700 kilometers) wide. Pluto is the largest resident of the Kuiper Belt, with a diameter of 1,474 miles (2,371 km).
The research team first spotted 2015 RR245 in February of this year, while poring over images that the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope in Hawaii took in September 2015 as part of the ongoing Outer Solar System Origins Survey (OSSOS).
"There it was on the screen this dot of light moving so slowly that it had to be at least twice as far as Neptune from the sun," Bannister said.

Oh, that’s good! LOL!
Oh, Squee! Now I want to cuddle with a kitteh!
Jake would cuddle with you.
Ha, I’m the one on the right. My husband is the one on the left. I’m bad about leaving him the car that needs the fill up.
And I would cuddle with him ‘cause he’s such a manly cat! Ha-ha! ;o]
If you defy federal law, we deny federal funds.
Better?
It’s brief and eliminates the redundancy.
I lost weight, although not as much as I’d hoped.
I can’t keep up! Is this the last change?
(Not that I care, I’m just being beachy today.)
I like it, and I hope the word spreads. Maybe you should email Trump..? ;o]
I’ve got to lose weight, but I need more yogurt and rice pudding, more sandwich meat and cheese, and less bread.
Normally, I roll the meat and cheese with a layer or two of mayo and mustard and leave the bread out. But the cheese that folded the best with the meat had to be thrown out so now, I have no cheese for the meat. I can make crackers and cheese (my limit is six crackers) but I think there are only two slices of that cheese!
Oh. I just thought: I can fast for a couple of days! NOT! I have to eat when I take my pills. :o|
My mother was right about eating being a waste of time.
I’m going to Walmart in a few minutes, if the bedrooms upstairs are actually cleaned up like the people say. If not, I might not get around to it. Then DP can eat out, and the folks here can have lentils.
Epic Fail Latino Lawn Service is here. I’m looking forward to the day they are off for the winter, but I’m sure they aren’t.
And oh, yes: The TV remote for the community room was found in the night mail drop, which only the office personnel can access. Obviously, someone had a grudge, and decided to “hide” the remote. We have some really nasty people here, and make no mistake about that.
I didn’t get a banker’s box filled, but I did manage to rearrange the bookshelves so that I have religion (Bible collection) Doctrine and reference books in the big, gray bookcase and the few fiction and fantasy works in the small bookcase, which, it seems will remain mine after the move. I was told I could donate it if I didn’t want it. *grimace*
The white bookcase has all my holistic remedy books in it along with Gray’s Anatomy. And then there are my recipe books. I will have to weed them out, too. And now there are three bags of books to be disposed of either to the thrift store or the small library.
Maybe tomorrow, I can get started on the banker’s boxes. Maybe.
Sounds like you’ve made an excellent effort! The children’s rooms are tolerable, so I guess I’ll go to Walmart. Then it will be naptime. I keep thinking I’ll just fall asleep!
And I’m getting hungry. Darn. I was fine when I was outside.
<bang head/>
Not Friday.
Nap fail.
I ate some leftover vegetables from Sunday. After I drink a cup of tea, I’ll take James for his hour walk.
No, not Friday, and I’m glad.
I just had some very ugly chest pains, so I went in and had a breathing treatment.
(Stressing again about finances, I guess.)
One of my friends was going to come over today, but she decided to talk to her aunt in CA, then come over when she picked up her daughter from school, at 1430. Nope. Sorry. She knows my schedule, and I’m not happy that she wants to come so late (for me,) knowing my stamina is not that great.
Once again, I forgot to take my pills this morning, so that means that I took my morning and afternoon pills about an hour apart, and the afternoon/evening pills will need to be taken in just a few hours from now. That’s what I get for being so diligent about my books. Hah.
It seems my next door neighbor is making more enemies than friends, these days. She went off on LuDean with no warning, yesterday, so she is in a self-imposed exile, of sorts. LuDean and I were at the ramada today, (Charlie took the shuttle to get groceries) and Cindy 1 kept checking to see if we were still sitting there. She finally swallowed her pride and went to get her mail while Kim was still putting it up, and I told LuDean it’s really sad that Cindy 1 (There is also Cindy 2, that lives next to Charlie, and Cindy 3 that is from Viet Nam, and lives one building over from me.)
As I said earlier: Folks here are just plain weird. Strange, mean, hateful, gossipy and rude. I know a lot of them are ill, and some are in constant pain, but others are just plain evil.
Evening, all. The family is supposed to leave for the gym soon, and then I will mop the floors. I drove Tom out of the dining room by running the vacuum. I’ll have to do that more often!
What cute meese!
