Pluto isn't quite as lonely as scientists had thought.
Astronomers have discovered another dwarf planet in the Kuiper Belt, the ring of icy objects beyond Neptune. But this newfound world, dubbed 2015 RR245, is much more distant than Pluto, orbiting the sun once every 700 Earth years, scientists said. (Pluto completes one lap around the sun every 248 Earth years.)
"The icy worlds beyond Neptune trace how the giant planets formed and then moved out from the sun," discovery team member Michele Bannister, of the University of Victoria in British Columbia, said in a statement. "They let us piece together the history of our solar system."
...
The exact size of 2015 RR245 is not yet known, but the researchers think it's about 435 miles (700 kilometers) wide. Pluto is the largest resident of the Kuiper Belt, with a diameter of 1,474 miles (2,371 km).
The research team first spotted 2015 RR245 in February of this year, while poring over images that the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope in Hawaii took in September 2015 as part of the ongoing Outer Solar System Origins Survey (OSSOS).
"There it was on the screen this dot of light moving so slowly that it had to be at least twice as far as Neptune from the sun," Bannister said.

Each time I look at that kitten, I want to get in bed and hold him.
May not be back for a 'spell', 'bout to get super busy; ... Just want to wish ALL
a Happy Thanksgiving, Happy Hanukkah, Merry Christmas and a
Happy and Blessings Filled New Year!
Too late now. The crisis is over. Ha-ha! ;o]
Happy all of those to you, as well, NtI! You are definitely missed, but we know that life interferes with the important stuff!
I thought you were punctuation check.
I multitask.
How are you today? Did you successfully Fall Back?
Hope things go great with all your activities!
I fell back.
Luckily I had a pillow there.
My campers are home with their dirty laundry.
Hope you have a good night and feel better tomorrow!
We didn’t do much today except shopping and laundry.
But that actually makes it a good day.
I did those, too.
Tomorrow is Monday.
Monday is the one day of the week that I don’t even need to open my eyes to recognize.
And, after work, I’ll be driving home in the dark.
Happy that y’all have fallen back successfully! I’m good!
You can't see the kitteh. She's hiding.
Got any 5’s?
Sweet little kitteh, hiding in the tall grass, camouflaged by the surrounding area... yep. I see it. Took me a while, but I found it.
I have to go do laundry. I’ve decided to do three loads today; sheets, towels and night shirts to ease the loads for next week when I do the clothes. I hate making work for myself!
Good morning. The day is not starting off very well here. I think I’ll give up on the “pleasant voice saying good morning” approach and go straight to banging drums and singing loudly.
Yes. That. The migraine is still with me, but the laundry is done and the night shirts are hanging to dry.
Next on the agenda is to make my bed *unnngh* and then the day’s work will be over. Unless I want to do the dishes.
While I was waiting for the washers to do their things, I started a “Brick-By-Brick” puzzle. Like a crossword with clues, but only blank squares to work with. There are “bricks” of six squares, and if you’ve done the puzzle correctly, all the bricks will be marked off. Today’s puzzle, though “easy” took me an hour. No wonder my brane is tard.
Of course, I will take time out to read, but I need to relax a bit, first. Reading after an activity is difficult for me, for some reason. Probably the CFIDS at work. BUT! It all counts on 20.
Good morning. Did I miss anything important over the weekend?
My weekend was fun.
I did the elliptical AND weights today. According to my exercise chart, the last time I did weights was July 1. I took 30 lbs. off everything. So far, nothing hurts except the shoulder with bursitis, and that’s not “really” hurting, more an electrical, “I don’t like you” twinge.
