Pluto isn't quite as lonely as scientists had thought.
Astronomers have discovered another dwarf planet in the Kuiper Belt, the ring of icy objects beyond Neptune. But this newfound world, dubbed 2015 RR245, is much more distant than Pluto, orbiting the sun once every 700 Earth years, scientists said. (Pluto completes one lap around the sun every 248 Earth years.)
"The icy worlds beyond Neptune trace how the giant planets formed and then moved out from the sun," discovery team member Michele Bannister, of the University of Victoria in British Columbia, said in a statement. "They let us piece together the history of our solar system."
...
The exact size of 2015 RR245 is not yet known, but the researchers think it's about 435 miles (700 kilometers) wide. Pluto is the largest resident of the Kuiper Belt, with a diameter of 1,474 miles (2,371 km).
The research team first spotted 2015 RR245 in February of this year, while poring over images that the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope in Hawaii took in September 2015 as part of the ongoing Outer Solar System Origins Survey (OSSOS).
"There it was on the screen this dot of light moving so slowly that it had to be at least twice as far as Neptune from the sun," Bannister said.

It might the same dance, since his steps aren’t all that lively at 80+. I don’t know if it will be the same outfit until I see it. Last time it was silver lame’ robes and big sunglasses, and the chorus was, “Sin, sin, sin, sin, sin.”
"Without, without, without, without, without."?
So the Grandchildren (well, 50% of them) are spending the weekend. Youngest Granddaughter informs that they had an election at school today.
“And nobody voted for Hillary.”
They live in PA. Whether that is an indicator or not remains to be seen.
I saw two kinds of signs in Pennsylvania yards; Trump signs, and For Sale signs.
I think there’s a connection.
"It's cake you twit! Cake not cat!
This time, Father Ho appeared in the Gold Calf scene.
Chicken re-thinking that free range business.
Right. I know the story well. That's the scene that comes just after Moses has received the fifteen commandments.
There were only ten in this production, and Moses didn’t smash the tablets: just tossed them gently offstage so they can be used in the remaining performances.
Father Ho’s dancing, though not very spry, was with the beat. He’s a native Jamaican.
I expect this activity cuts down on egg production. I had some friends over yesterday afternoon, a boy from Frank’s Cub Scouts den and his mother. She said their four hens each lay an egg every day.
Productive hens secure in the knowledge that invasive alien feline predator species not running wild in the neighborhood.
As Martha Stewart says, “It’s a good thing”.
We haven’t been to see the chickens yet (that’s proposed for next week). I’ll be interested in their cat-proof facilities.
Oh, no. Now I’ll have that brain worm with me all day. Thanks, You.
*hmpf*
The world may look better from that perspective.
Pretty kitteh.
One of my church friends (has a quilt store and is VERY good at what she does) has two chickens. I told her she needed a third. She has Red and Blue (black, mostly) but I told her she needed a third one: Blanca.
She gets an egg a day from them, most days, and is very proud of their efforts. I know because she posts pics of plates of food containing eggs on FB.
Good morning. We were out almost until midnight. Kathleen is up (since she didn’t go to the show), and she says she wants to go to the gym. I had planned on a shower this morning, but I guess I’ll take it after going to the gym!
But first, I have to feed the dragons. I got them some dandelion leaves and kale from the garden.
I’s one of those permanent viruses that lie dormant until the trigger words, “ Some one left the cat out in the rain...”
Lucky millenials that never heard the song are immune to it.
