New Dwarf Planet Discovered Far Beyond Pluto's Orbit

Pluto isn't quite as lonely as scientists had thought.

Astronomers have discovered another dwarf planet in the Kuiper Belt, the ring of icy objects beyond Neptune. But this newfound world, dubbed 2015 RR245, is much more distant than Pluto, orbiting the sun once every 700 Earth years, scientists said. (Pluto completes one lap around the sun every 248 Earth years.)

"The icy worlds beyond Neptune trace how the giant planets formed and then moved out from the sun," discovery team member Michele Bannister, of the University of Victoria in British Columbia, said in a statement. "They let us piece together the history of our solar system."

...

The exact size of 2015 RR245 is not yet known, but the researchers think it's about 435 miles (700 kilometers) wide. Pluto is the largest resident of the Kuiper Belt, with a diameter of 1,474 miles (2,371 km).

The research team first spotted 2015 RR245 in February of this year, while poring over images that the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope in Hawaii took in September 2015 as part of the ongoing Outer Solar System Origins Survey (OSSOS).

"There it was on the screen — this dot of light moving so slowly that it had to be at least twice as far as Neptune from the sun," Bannister said.

I have pretty much torn the house apart, trying to find the power cord for the portable nebulizer, but no soap. I emailed Preferred Homecare over the weekend and they called today, telling me a replacement cord would be $41.00. Yep.

So I went through all the cords I had (most had USB ends) and found a multi-frequency cord with the adapters intact. I have one of them on the battery unit, trying to charge it. The 12V adapter is there, but since I’m not driving to Arkansas, that’s not much good. I hope this thing works.

It seems rather strange to not go out with the peeps, but I figured I could use a day in. One thing is for sure: as humid as AR is, I will definitely need that nebulizer.

Went to library, picked up Elen, went to Walmart. Now I’m having a small Restorative and some pretzels.

If you started packing some of your less-used things, you might find the cord. And if you were asked why, you could say you were looking for the cord and this was the only way to remember where you’d looked and where you hadn’t.

Know what I mean?

Now is the time I need the Restorative. Maybe I will get one on my way back from the lab in the morning.

My list for payday will include a Filtrete Filter, since my place smells like wet cigarette smoke, (or worse, a wet ash tray) thanks to my neighbor.

I will be so glad when I get to St George, where there will be NO cigarette residue in the ducts, due to the non-smoking policy. Another reason to be glad to get out of here.

I was able to find my personal history in the Recycle Bin, and that was the high point of the last six months! I did NOT want to reconstruct any part of it! So I’m happy, now.

It looks like Epic Fail will be done “early” today. I suspect they won’t be coming too often since the lawns are dormant here in the winter. The sprinklers are shut off and nothing in the way of yardwork is done.

If you can’t get out of year-round yardwork by living in the desert, then what’s the point?

It should have been in the fabric crate that holds the portable nebulizer and the meds, but it wasn’t there. The only power cord that is in the case with the nebulizer is the one for the cigarette lighter. That won’t help if I need to charge it at the airport, and again, after I’ve used it. I suspect I’ll be alone at my son’s during the day, since they both work.

And yes, I know what you mean...I plan to pack some stuff tomorrow, and if someone asks, I will just say I don’t want to dust those things any more. Charlie gave me a stack of newspapers, so I can wrap to my heart’s content. But I plan on using Latex gloves so I can just throw them out when the newsprint gets too ugly. ;o]

So we shall see what happens to the battery pack by the time I’m ready for bed. There is one other cord that I plan to try, but I will wait to see how this one works.

You’re not going on the trip yet, so you have a while to work at it.

Some of the larger corporations will continue to have green grass and flowers all through the winter. But SNRHA is too stingy. They don’t even want to pay Epic Fail for what they have done so far. The more they pay to other entities, the less they can pocket. And that is serious stuff. There is a Triune of women who want the last word in everything that is done, and they turn a blind eye to the things that need attention.

They are SO stingy that they allow pest control only quarterly, and that means we either spray the apartments ourselves or become overrun with multi-legged critters. None of which are fluffy and cute and need to be petted.

Anyway, with any luck, all that corruption will be blown out of the water here before long. I’m looking forward to that!

With luck, this is the year that NV requires ID to vote. However, I will still watch the voting machine very closely.

Since my PO box is filled with political ads, I will be glad for the election to be over with. But I can still hear the Dims screaming about how Trump stole the vote, a la Al Gore.

Well, it is an election year.

The low tonight is forecast to be 29 and 28 tomorrow night. We had a lone iris blooming so I rescued it. Of course since it is open now it will be a short display. But still prettier than leaving it to freeze and turn into a brown slimy glob...

That is beautiful! But then, I’m partial to iris. They are next to gladiolus on my Favorite Flower List.

Nice iris! Good morning. I was poking the Trump supporters a little yesterday. Might have gotten myself banned, if I hadn’t had to leave to teach the Bilingual Supplemental Sacrament Class.

They are frightened but oh, so determined not to let it show.

Good morning. I’ve had my shower, and will be heading out for the lab in about 40 minutes.

In other news, the variable frequency power cord worked, but I have found one more I want to try that is less bulky. This one will fit in the case, but it takes up room that could be used for meds.

I hate being up this early, but it would seem that Monday Tuesday and Wednesday, I can’t sleep in past 0300. Drat.

The first of December, I’m going to get my hair cut, and this time, I hope they listen to me, rather than try and talk me out of the cut I want.

Be firm! It helps if you have a picture of what you want.

I went around upstairs this morning playing a tambourine and singing. "Get out of bed now, go to the toilet, and come downstairs right now ...". It got enough people up to get the driving figured out.

LOL! You GO, Mom!

I’m off for now. I think I will stop and get a munchie for on the way home. Later.
