Pluto isn't quite as lonely as scientists had thought.
Astronomers have discovered another dwarf planet in the Kuiper Belt, the ring of icy objects beyond Neptune. But this newfound world, dubbed 2015 RR245, is much more distant than Pluto, orbiting the sun once every 700 Earth years, scientists said. (Pluto completes one lap around the sun every 248 Earth years.)
"The icy worlds beyond Neptune trace how the giant planets formed and then moved out from the sun," discovery team member Michele Bannister, of the University of Victoria in British Columbia, said in a statement. "They let us piece together the history of our solar system."
...
The exact size of 2015 RR245 is not yet known, but the researchers think it's about 435 miles (700 kilometers) wide. Pluto is the largest resident of the Kuiper Belt, with a diameter of 1,474 miles (2,371 km).
The research team first spotted 2015 RR245 in February of this year, while poring over images that the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope in Hawaii took in September 2015 as part of the ongoing Outer Solar System Origins Survey (OSSOS).
"There it was on the screen this dot of light moving so slowly that it had to be at least twice as far as Neptune from the sun," Bannister said.

Oh Face... I’m so sorry. Please be more careful.
I met two cats while Kathleen was swimming. A calico let me pet her, until she decided to scratch me, and a Siamese crossed the street to check me out but then sat about 10 feet away and glowered.
Siamese are the better dressed versions of Marty Feldman in the feline world.
You can’t trust Siamese.
...nor, broadly speaking, most of their owners, Pyewacket excluded of course.
My parents had Siamese, rather than rescue-cats of various breeds.
Oh, yeah! I feel it.
Sorry for your hurt. Glad you didn’t have to remove any bodily fluids from the sheets and towels.
Oh, dear! Sorry about your injury!
Radar does tend to support the fact that something evil this way comes. And they put up this 'area affected' map. It looks like Mayor Wilhelm's dominion won't get the flushing it needs to rinse the smell of vagrant pee off the sidewalks...
I try to be careful because of the fragile skin, but I didn’t stoop far enough to prevent my arm from touching the dryer door frame. And that puppy is SHARP! My back was pretty stiff this morning, so it’s my own fault.
Thanks for the commiseration! :o])
That happened when I went to fly the flag on Memorial Day, but the old flag was ready to be retired, so my friend’s husband took it to dispose of properly. I had no clue what a relief that was, to know that it would be disposed of in keeping with the flag regulations.
The owie looks ugly, so I need to go re-dress it. :o|
Me too. My arm was just getting back to “normal” in coloring and then, over the last couple of days, I’ve manage to collect a couple of ugly looking marks. Today’s is the worst.
In other news...
One of our neighbors is going into hospice, so her sister is giving away her stuff. I got a larger drop leaf table, in a blonde finish, but there were no chairs. The matching hutch is mine, but for now, it goes into the community room. I will take it when I move, and that way, I can display my dishes. YAY!
I have to clean the surface of it, but I’m anxious to get it in here. :o])
It’s big enough that I can invite company over...at least three people! YAY!
I also got two more Bibles! And in one was a small crocheted cross. Very pretty.
And: The best news is this: Cholesterol is 132 and triglycerides are 57.
*happy dance*
Hey, excellent news!
Good luck with all that!
And better yet, I don’t take cholesterol meds. ;o]
Good. Those are bad for you!
My cholesterol has always been low, and I eat red meat, cheese, eggs, butter, whole milk, etc. I love the stuff.
I still maintain if a person switches from cholesterol meds to full dairy products, they can lower their cholesterol. But then, the docs won’t make any money off them... ;o]
yahooo!
