Pluto isn't quite as lonely as scientists had thought.
Astronomers have discovered another dwarf planet in the Kuiper Belt, the ring of icy objects beyond Neptune. But this newfound world, dubbed 2015 RR245, is much more distant than Pluto, orbiting the sun once every 700 Earth years, scientists said. (Pluto completes one lap around the sun every 248 Earth years.)
"The icy worlds beyond Neptune trace how the giant planets formed and then moved out from the sun," discovery team member Michele Bannister, of the University of Victoria in British Columbia, said in a statement. "They let us piece together the history of our solar system."
...
The exact size of 2015 RR245 is not yet known, but the researchers think it's about 435 miles (700 kilometers) wide. Pluto is the largest resident of the Kuiper Belt, with a diameter of 1,474 miles (2,371 km).
The research team first spotted 2015 RR245 in February of this year, while poring over images that the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope in Hawaii took in September 2015 as part of the ongoing Outer Solar System Origins Survey (OSSOS).
"There it was on the screen this dot of light moving so slowly that it had to be at least twice as far as Neptune from the sun," Bannister said.

That one’ll cost ya’.
That’s excellent news.
They tried to do an MRI of my brain. They spent 20 minutes looking for the darn thing once and told me never to come back.
Yahbut...America was chosen to be a free country. I mean, when you think about it, this country has the best constitution and the best government (as it was first designed) than any other country in the world.
And I will remember that when I go to vote. And I will continue to pray about a righteous leader. More people need to pray about that, for sure.
I just made an appointment for a blood draw for the 28th, at 0500 in Vegas. The drive is worth it because the wait at the local lab is horrendous.
And now, because I just can’t tolerate my pitiful self any more, I’m going to bed. I’m hoping tomorrow will be a much better day. And I will go up to the clubhouse in the morning and tell Zeke of the events of the day with LuDean. Hopefully, he won’t be too surprised.
"The Twilight's Own".
Wow, that’s a winner!
Looks like I will need to cover them back up Friday night - projected low of 30..
The tomatoes on the other hand did not fare well. They're not all black and withered but they took significant damage. I don't expect to get any more from the vines but I won't pull them up yet.
You could move a couple of tomato plants indoors. I’ve heard that a tomato plant can turn into something resembling a tree if it is protected from frost and other dire conditions.
That’s if you want tomatoes in the middle of the winter.
Ever heard of an orangery?
Some days I wish I could do that, just because. :)
Morning TC.
Yesterday was meltdown central, today.....tumbleweed. Lots going on, just not in my corner of the building.
A little ball of floofy squee! That’s what everyone needs to start a day.
Good morning/evening! It’s just getting light here. The birds should start soon.
I feel hungover, but I’m sure it’s just emotional. My brain feels like gray lint this morning, which is nothing new for a relapse of CFIDS. It just means I won’t be functioning at my optimum for the duration, so don’t ask me any hard questions, like if I want coffee or tea.
Now that I’m up at my “regular” time, I find I have time to take my time. And the timing couldn’t be better. ;o]
I wish I had some more thermal shirts. These things are life savers to me. Maybe I’ll find some on sale when Walmart brings out their summer clothes.
I feel okay, except for my right arm. I’m going to pay some of the most urgent bills, and then either plan music for Sunday or do some Educations with Frank and Kathleen.
Did you try some of that pain goop I sent you on your right arm? It may help.
I printed out the data for the blood draw appointment, as I don’t want them to call me to remind me. SW Medical does that, and I’m glad, but if I pull up the website every few days, and log in, I will see the appointment so I can remind myself.
Zeke has passed out the fliers for the 501c3 meeting and I think he’s pretty excited about it. I’m going to go up to the clubhouse in a few minutes and talk to him about LuDean. I don’t think he’s going to be happy.
But that’s the way it goes. My mind boggles at the stubborn stupidity of some people, and she is one I least expected it from. But ohwell. She is who she is and she will be that person until she dies. At which time, I suspect some things will haunt her.
HAY!!!! Friday the 13th falls on Thursday this month! YAY!
Good to know.
Now get Hillary! to an MRI machine...
What is the unladen airspeed of a swallow?
They’d find moldy cheese.
There’s a joke in there, somewhere; I can sense it. ;o]
let me stick my foot in my ear and think about that.
have you heard about this The Big Bang UK Young Scientists & Engineers Fair, in Birmingham this week.
