Pluto isn't quite as lonely as scientists had thought.
Astronomers have discovered another dwarf planet in the Kuiper Belt, the ring of icy objects beyond Neptune. But this newfound world, dubbed 2015 RR245, is much more distant than Pluto, orbiting the sun once every 700 Earth years, scientists said. (Pluto completes one lap around the sun every 248 Earth years.)
"The icy worlds beyond Neptune trace how the giant planets formed and then moved out from the sun," discovery team member Michele Bannister, of the University of Victoria in British Columbia, said in a statement. "They let us piece together the history of our solar system."
...
The exact size of 2015 RR245 is not yet known, but the researchers think it's about 435 miles (700 kilometers) wide. Pluto is the largest resident of the Kuiper Belt, with a diameter of 1,474 miles (2,371 km).
The research team first spotted 2015 RR245 in February of this year, while poring over images that the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope in Hawaii took in September 2015 as part of the ongoing Outer Solar System Origins Survey (OSSOS).
"There it was on the screen this dot of light moving so slowly that it had to be at least twice as far as Neptune from the sun," Bannister said.

I agree.
But for reasons I can’t explain my boss seems to frown on the practice.
I tried to bring up siesta but he played the cultural appropriation card so ...
That’s a fairly convoluted area of track. Hard to imagine running ‘full speed’ (as last I saw reported) into Hoboken without a derailment.
Was the engineer’s name Mohamhead or aren’t they saying?
The engineer’s name was Jose.
The maintenance man who fixed the breaks was Mohammed.
Actually, that’s just a surmise on my part. But I won’t be surprised if it turns out to be true.
According to the map, there are switch settings that could have had the train coming more or less straight in.
One tweet said the first car went airborne.
What do those things weigh - 80 tons or so?

Somebody tell me I’m wrong. I didn’t care who it is , just somebody.
Manikins and coffee.....
I looked at the aerial view and yes, for the train to be in the area it was would have been a fairly straight run.
The train was coming from Spring Valley. That means it was a diesel locomotive and operating in push mode so the engineer would have been in the front car, not the locomotive. That also means his was the first body that felt the force of the impact since those cab cars don’t offer as much crunch space as a locomotive..
The locomotive most likely was a PL42 diesel-electric which weighs about 280 thou pounds but it was at the other end of the train. I have no idea what the cab car weighs..
Reports are that the engineer was unresponsive when removed from the cab but no word that I have heard on his name. The lead car became airborne and hit the roof (ceiling?) of the waiting area causing it to collapse. Don’t know yet about the train shed. If that was affected it could get interesting structurally since that shed covers something like 12 tracks..
It has been over a decade since I’ve been in Hoboken Terminal..
‘Twas probably the dear governator, Andy Son of Former Emperor Cuomo..
He qualifies as a creepy clown..
W000t!
I had company, so I couldn’t compete. Hahahaha!
I found the fork my mother gave me when I first got married, so I’m going to send it to my son. I think the silver set was a wedding present for her, back in 1924. I polished it up, wrapped it in bubble wrap and it’s ready to mail.
Maybe, if I send him enough stuff, he will call me. Haha. He’s too busy for that, these days.
At the risk of being a nuisance.....
The bubble wrap isn’t in contact with the silver is it?
It stains it very quickly.
Deer hunting season starts soon, so all of the Clowns have evacuated the woods for the winter.
Fixed it... ;-)
Oh, isn’t that nice! The fork, I mean.
I just got back from Walmart and gas station - the van was almost empty - and stopped by the eye doctor to pay for whatever Tom’s having done.
Next, DP, Sally and I are going to the Botanical Garden to hang out.
Ahhh!
LoL!
:D
Yes, but it was stained forever. I don’t think it’s ever been polished in all the years I’ve had it, and it wasn’t polished when she gave it to me. It won’t take long to get there, and if it’s too shiny, he won’t recognize it.
But I will remember that for future reference, so thanks!
Don’t fill the van at the gas station. You mostly pick up day laborers there.
Best to fill the van at a college campus. Much better quality of passengers.
Oh, if you fill the van at a college campus, go to the engineering school or the arts & sciences school. NEVER pick up a * Studies major, not matter how much they offer you.
Excellent points. I could use some day laborers, though. Epic Fail is just barely keeping us even, home-maintenance-wise.
Is he looking at the silence in here?
