New Dwarf Planet Discovered Far Beyond Pluto's Orbit

Pluto isn't quite as lonely as scientists had thought.

Astronomers have discovered another dwarf planet in the Kuiper Belt, the ring of icy objects beyond Neptune. But this newfound world, dubbed 2015 RR245, is much more distant than Pluto, orbiting the sun once every 700 Earth years, scientists said. (Pluto completes one lap around the sun every 248 Earth years.)

"The icy worlds beyond Neptune trace how the giant planets formed and then moved out from the sun," discovery team member Michele Bannister, of the University of Victoria in British Columbia, said in a statement. "They let us piece together the history of our solar system."

...

The exact size of 2015 RR245 is not yet known, but the researchers think it's about 435 miles (700 kilometers) wide. Pluto is the largest resident of the Kuiper Belt, with a diameter of 1,474 miles (2,371 km).

The research team first spotted 2015 RR245 in February of this year, while poring over images that the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope in Hawaii took in September 2015 as part of the ongoing Outer Solar System Origins Survey (OSSOS).

"There it was on the screen — this dot of light moving so slowly that it had to be at least twice as far as Neptune from the sun," Bannister said.

I saw on FB that 70% of the people arrested in Charlotte had out-of-state IDs.

That was a statement from the head of the police union, and he now says he just made it up. They have actually arrested very few people. Anoreth says that's typical: they don't bother to make arrests if they don't expect to prosecute.

No, we didn't go to any slums when you were here! I'm familiar with a few crummy areas, but I don't go up into the city much at all.

It’s pretty sad when law enforcement feel they have to make up statistics. But that’s the way of the country today. Integrity and honesty are no longer to be admired. That is very sad.

"They have actually arrested very few people."

I would recommend that they ramp up their arrests, and keep the people they arrest locked up for at least a month.

Let them out only if they have a job to go to.

And if they don’t have a job to go to, take away their welfare “benefits” for taking part in a riot.

But then, I come from the kind of stock that always believed in “an honest day’s work for an honest day’s pay.”

It was 57 degrees an hour ago, but it’s 62, now. S @ 2 mph, 25%, clear.

I want to go someplace where I can get a cup of coffee and a donut and sit down to enjoy them. But I don’t know of any place like that around here.

So maybe on my way home from getting quarters, I’ll just stop at 7-11 for a donut and bring it home and make a cup of coffee here. Then I can get to work on the coat closet. :o]

Technically that would be ‘multiply yourself by the speed of light squared’... ;-)

Are you suggesting cats don’t read?

Of course they read. That is why they know what you are reading and exactly where it is on the page that they just plomphed theirself on..

(Spellchequer says theirself isn't a word, but it's right THERE in my dictionary..)

Einstein is pleased.. ;-)

Now if you want to make 'you energy' into 'you're energy' even English teachers will be happy. And nit pickers. But the liberals will still be upset. Do you care? ;-)

Afternoon! We’re back from the church festival, where it was very warm (92) and sunny, but a good time was had by all. There were activities indoors and out, so nobody had to stay out in the sun all the time. Also some trees for shade.

Very tired now. I supposed I should have more water.

Thanks for pointing out something I didn’t know the first time. The second time, however, I’m not concerned with English pickers and nit teachers. I’ll leave it the way it is, just because I think it’s funny! ;o]

Good morning.

I’m about ready to take a shower, and I’m really hoping it makes me feel better. Although, I don’t really feel like taking it.

My throat was sore last night so I’m thinking a relapse is at hand. I’m hoping that’s all it is, and not West Nile Virus.

So starts my day. *yawn*

Good morning.

Name the maker of this rare and long roadster.

hint: King Zog of Albania was denied the purchase of this model type because the maker thought Zog's eating habits were atrocious.
