Pluto isn't quite as lonely as scientists had thought.
Astronomers have discovered another dwarf planet in the Kuiper Belt, the ring of icy objects beyond Neptune. But this newfound world, dubbed 2015 RR245, is much more distant than Pluto, orbiting the sun once every 700 Earth years, scientists said. (Pluto completes one lap around the sun every 248 Earth years.)
"The icy worlds beyond Neptune trace how the giant planets formed and then moved out from the sun," discovery team member Michele Bannister, of the University of Victoria in British Columbia, said in a statement. "They let us piece together the history of our solar system."
...
The exact size of 2015 RR245 is not yet known, but the researchers think it's about 435 miles (700 kilometers) wide. Pluto is the largest resident of the Kuiper Belt, with a diameter of 1,474 miles (2,371 km).
The research team first spotted 2015 RR245 in February of this year, while poring over images that the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope in Hawaii took in September 2015 as part of the ongoing Outer Solar System Origins Survey (OSSOS).
"There it was on the screen this dot of light moving so slowly that it had to be at least twice as far as Neptune from the sun," Bannister said.

Oh lookie what happened...
I read on beebers when I can’t afford the books, or don’t want to go to the library. So many good ebooks are free, and I subscribe to two daily free ebook services. It’s been a while since I downloaded one, though.
But since we were kids, my sister and I read before bed. I still do, but she reads in the daytime. I used to do that, but not any more. I’ve read in bed almost every night of my life since I was 10 years old. Or maybe younger. And I was lucky enough to marry men that read, too. :o]
W00t!
I thought it would be amusing to clean the touch screen with posting comment active.
Removed the letters and hit post.
As you do.....
That technique has produced some of my best works...
But only the catz know what you actually said, and they aren’t talking!
We used to drive from Orlando to Prescott every other summer.
If I hadn’t been able to read in a moving car I might not have survived.
My mom would probably have killed me.
There is that.
Which is why I am not a published author. The marketing of my works would be, um, difficult..
True, dat.
Are you suggesting cats don’t read?
Hillary Clinton is coming to Charlotte on Sunday to grandstand. I just emailed my mother to warn her: she and another USAir retiree are supposed to fly out of Charlotte on the way to Paris on Sunday.
Lol!
That is a very tiny floofy squee! I heart dat fing!
HRC is trying to do an Ovomit move, I see. Taking credit for the BLM movement over a “book.”
I hope your mother and her friend are scheduled to fly out long before or long after HRC’s arrival.
Mom says she doesn’t think they’ll be affected by Hillary’s visit.
The kitten didn’t want her picture taken.
This morning’s news says Hillary has changed her mind about visiting Charlotte. One less thing for Mom to worry about. The flight to Paris has lots of seats available, but she’ll have to get on the earliest flight out of Orlando to get here. That one usually ends up taking on a lot of standbys, because departing tourists book it but don’t make it to the airport in time.
Just like me, I guess. I’ve never liked having my picture taken. Which is probably why I don’t do “selfies.”
Hillary’s health again, eh? Charlotte is probably much better off without her.
I saw on FB that 70% of the people arrested in Charlotte had out-of-state IDs. Soros is stirring the pot some more. Trying to get his last licks in, I guess.
What I saw of Charlotte, I thought it was quite a pretty city, but then, you never took me to the slums/ghetto. Not that I would miss the experience... ;o]
