Pluto isn't quite as lonely as scientists had thought.
Astronomers have discovered another dwarf planet in the Kuiper Belt, the ring of icy objects beyond Neptune. But this newfound world, dubbed 2015 RR245, is much more distant than Pluto, orbiting the sun once every 700 Earth years, scientists said. (Pluto completes one lap around the sun every 248 Earth years.)
"The icy worlds beyond Neptune trace how the giant planets formed and then moved out from the sun," discovery team member Michele Bannister, of the University of Victoria in British Columbia, said in a statement. "They let us piece together the history of our solar system."
...
The exact size of 2015 RR245 is not yet known, but the researchers think it's about 435 miles (700 kilometers) wide. Pluto is the largest resident of the Kuiper Belt, with a diameter of 1,474 miles (2,371 km).
The research team first spotted 2015 RR245 in February of this year, while poring over images that the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope in Hawaii took in September 2015 as part of the ongoing Outer Solar System Origins Survey (OSSOS).
"There it was on the screen this dot of light moving so slowly that it had to be at least twice as far as Neptune from the sun," Bannister said.

Like I said: You guys have way too much fun without me. Of course, with my slowed down mind, you could have this previous conversation, and my brain would finally have caught up with the latest train pics from NoCmpromiz from a week ago, and my two-bits’ worth would have been, “I was on a train, once.” And all this time, the conversation was moving faster than the speed of the Flying Castle. :o|
Good morning everyone. I overslept. It was 0437 when I got up, and I have to go into Vegas today. Ungh.
I don’t know if God’s sprinkler system was forecast for yesterday afternoon but there seemed to be a LOT of people in the subway station I was trying to exit who were unprepared.
Not that my umbrella did much more than keep me dry from the chin upwards.
A POTUS who does nothing would be preferable, IMHO, to the current title-holder and the group requesting it be granted to them next.
In the future all workers will be government employees and all education will be government education. You vill do vhat ve tell you to do and you vill learn vhat we tell you to learn.
Do not let the current setback let you think you are winning.
Good morning, ArGee.
I’m soon to be heading for Vegas to get my new prescription, and I really hate the drive. Times like these, I wish we had a subway system. The next closest is the Fixed Route bus system, and I would have had to leave over an hour ago to get to where I’m going on time. And part of the trip would be with the Great Unwashed Masses of Homeless Peeps, riding to stay cool in the A/C of the buses in the summer, or to stay warm in the winter. *sigh*
Yes, oh wise one. We are out of crunchies.
Kill, young one. A cat you can be!
We have mourning doves out in the back yard. They are slow and stupid.
We put up bird feeders in the back yard. George T Cat now loves to sit in the bay window watching what DH calls "Cat TV".
No hunting this year as we have been busy working on the house. Almost done though. I see the light at the end of the tunnel. Please, oh Lord, don't let it be an oncoming train.
If I have to tear up one more floor I shall scream.
Oh, LORD, won’t you buy me a Mercedes-Benz?
I mean, while we’re praying pipe-dreams I might as well get mine in.
Or you might be a better handy-person than I am. Whenever I take implements of destruction to the house it turns out badly.
I have decided to have another epidural for my neck before I move to St George. I’m hoping it will help me with the packing and such, since I’ve opted not to have the surgery quite yet.
The trip into Vegas wasn’t too bad this morning, but when I got home, Oscar the Grouch had my parking spot. He will take mine over Greg’s, any day. And Greg’s is the one he made such a big deal out of to begin with.
The doctor also gave me the number for Medical Records so I can begin to gather them all up and have them ready for my doctor in St. George. :o]) Things are coming together, slowly.
But so far every floor we wanted to redo had to be torn out completely and redone.
Apparently we are the first owners to redo the floors and the house is over 50 years old.
Bathroom and dinning rooms are done, kitchen is doing.
Good morning everyone. I overslept. It was 0437 when I got up, and I have to go into Vegas today. Ungh.”
Don’t you dare Ungh us, you brazen hussy !
Good morning, sjb. How are you today?
Sounds like a plan. Sorry about the parking space!
I had Naptime with Jake. I feel somewhat better, though not good. Kathleen’s swimming lesson tonight is cancelled and will be rescheduled.
You can just unghnore her unghs.
LOL! The brazen is pretty well tarnished after that trip! Going was no too bad and the doctor’s visit was good, but coming home, it seems all the ugliness of the commuters came my way!
How are you doing these days, SJB? And have you seen I, Singh, I, lately? ;o]
This sounds like a real project. Whatever made you decide to remodel? I mean, besides being “outdated?”
Would you believe serious insanity?
The parking space is OK...I mean, I didn’t have a ton of groceries to unload, so I will listen for him to leave in the morning, and I will step out and take my spot back.
I should have had a breathing treatment before I left, and I didn’t think to drink some hibiscus tea, but that’s what I get for sleeping in until 0445! My BP was unreadable, so they didn’t even bother with it.
It has been pretty cool in the AMs, lately, and I like that because that means I can open the security door (screen) and let the cooler air in for a couple of hours before the sun comes up, and that means that the A/C won’t cycle until almost my bedtime. :o]
Someone in the last resident council didn’t hand in all the keys, so Zeke had the lock changed yesterday, and only he, Carlos and I have a key for it. It seems that things are coming up missing, and that’s not good. I went in to try the doors and make sure I knew which key to throw out. When I went in, one of the other people who opens was in there and had just had a cigarette. That’s a no-no. Grrrr...
Sounds like you’ve had a long day! I have a church meeting tonight; not sure what the rest of the family will do.
