Pluto isn't quite as lonely as scientists had thought.
Astronomers have discovered another dwarf planet in the Kuiper Belt, the ring of icy objects beyond Neptune. But this newfound world, dubbed 2015 RR245, is much more distant than Pluto, orbiting the sun once every 700 Earth years, scientists said. (Pluto completes one lap around the sun every 248 Earth years.)
"The icy worlds beyond Neptune trace how the giant planets formed and then moved out from the sun," discovery team member Michele Bannister, of the University of Victoria in British Columbia, said in a statement. "They let us piece together the history of our solar system."
...
The exact size of 2015 RR245 is not yet known, but the researchers think it's about 435 miles (700 kilometers) wide. Pluto is the largest resident of the Kuiper Belt, with a diameter of 1,474 miles (2,371 km).
The research team first spotted 2015 RR245 in February of this year, while poring over images that the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope in Hawaii took in September 2015 as part of the ongoing Outer Solar System Origins Survey (OSSOS).
"There it was on the screen this dot of light moving so slowly that it had to be at least twice as far as Neptune from the sun," Bannister said.

It’s actually in the book.
I will admit I’m not one of those who reads the Trilogy over and over.
But I’m a bit surprised.
Thanks! ;o])
W000t!
I was outside, so it’s all good.
Good for you!
Eeeeew~!
Tolkien was not just a fantastic author, but he was a very wise man as well. And he had a wicked sense of humor.
The LOTR books were written because he wanted to invent a language, and ended up inventing several that actually worked. BUT! In order to use those languages, he had to create civilizations, and so, Middle Earth was formed and peopled with several cultures.
In trying to invent the languages to fit the people, he inadvertently stepped out of Earth and retreated to Middle Earth. And the rest, (as “they” say,) is “history.”
Another palindromic post wasted.
And this one with null and void in the middle.
Dr. Whatsis, the presenter on my “Writing and Civilization” recordings, says that invented languages and writing systems such as Tolkien’s have a number of distinctive features that make them instantly distinguishable from natural languages. However, if they ever came into general use, they would quickly devolve from their starting point in irrational and inefficient - but predictable - ways.
I believe that. But the man was a genius.
Absolutely. I love his sentences!
Tom is tutoring my friend’s son in Pre-Calculus. I just got a text from a teenaged girl from church. She’s panicking over a meeting this evening that she can’t get to, but she doesn’t have to go. She’s in 9th grade, and the meeting is for 8th grade students.
Oh, man! I HATE when I do stuff like that! LOL!
Tolkien’s sentences and paragraphs were like eye and brain candy to me. Which is why I loved reading his books. I’m thinking of starting them again, just because.
I have been so wrapped up in Scriptures and Doctrine lately, that I think I really need a vacation for my mind. So I’ll start with The Hobbit, tonight. :o])
And so, I’m off to watch the Blanket Show!
I read that the first time as "torturing my friend's son." I guess that shows what pre-Calculus was for me.
The son just needed a little help with concepts. He feels much more confident about his upcoming test now.
Well, you've read a lot about the exploits of Tom the Son over the years.
What I have observed and deduced over the years is that he has a following of sorts among the avian contingent in your neighborhood.
He and Jake. Birds and rabbits ...
Evening, Bob. I went swimming while Kathleen had her swimming lesson. Now we’re practicing some music for Sunday: we have to do the Spanish service at 1:00 and the English service at 4:30. I found English words to two songs we do in Spanish, which makes it less work for DP.
I’ve always had a theory that knowing a song in another language, (and the translation for it), is an excellent way of learning that language well. The song gives you hooks into various parts of the other culture, and even helps with cues to pronunciation.
